new music

is it just me, or does most (if not all) new music sound over processed and poorly written... i guess you could say it sounds cold. i wonder, is this due to band's use of solid state amplifiers (which sound colder than tubes, i think) or just an excess of 'mastering'... what do you ever so enlightened critics of music think?

I don't think ALL new music sucks. There a couple decent bands out there. Not many, true, but there are some. Take The Mars Volta for instance. These guys are one of the best things to happen so far this millenium. I mean come on, what the hell has come out in the last 5 years that was even worth buying. (Again, there are a couple bands that I think are decent, but nothing compared to this)

what makes new music suck is the multi-billion dollar record label industry.
They tell us what to like, which is usually attractive people singing and playing poorly written songs.
Mainstream music blows cock.

 

Plain and simply put, its not done for the music. Its about the money, and the fame. The reason I think The Mars Volta is so damned good, just listen to the way he sings. He gets so deep into what he's doing, and it shows.

This fucking bullshit facade that gets published as music today isn't at all what it seems. So many people rant and rave, "Oh my god, good charlotte is so awesome. Holy shit, linkin park is a bunch of geniuses" or the worst, "blink-182 rocks so hard" If people hadn't lost their taste, and their sense of hearing, none of us would have to listen to this infernal crap. And what do these so called artists want from this? money money, fame, more money and top it off with some more money and fame. Lets try to publish one more hit so that we can make a couple more fucking dollars, just so we will be even richer. ( I'm sure as hell not saying who I'm referring to there because I will be flamed forever)

 

money and fame... thats why i started playing music, i maean, who needs feeling or intellectual capacity... yeah, again i agree... and as to the flaming, im sure you wouldn't be done so here, not with such 'open minded' people... yeah right

 

You just gotta look around!!

There are fucking hundreds, if not thousands, of great bands and musicians making some of the best music ever right now. But you sure as hell won't find them on mtv or the radio...

Well yeah, mainstream radio/music sucks! For the most part...

Oasis are a "mainstream" band, and they're my favorite band ever..... mmhmm. :H

 

yeah, i mean i listen to a little mainstream stuff... like the secret machines and the vines, but mostly i stick to other stuff... like the disco biscuits and perpetual groove and shit...

 

You should check out Black Rebel Motorcycle Club... not mainstream, but they're a great band making music right now.

 

ive heard of em, and theyre pretty damn good...

 

I dig some fairly mainstream bands, like Chevelle, the Foo Fighters, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But most modern mainstream just blows...I guess the average American youth has poor taste in music?

There is NEW good music around at the moment. I dont really know much, but i can hear some really cool stuff on alternative radio stations, it's the pop stations you have to avoid....
