If everyone suddenly agreed to all animal rights I have never heard anyone mention what they have in mind for the millions of chickens, cows, pigs etc. they would be everywhere. any suggestions?
LoL @ HoneySuckle :O Well, I think most can agree that it is unrealistic to think everyone is going to go from exploiting animals to supporting their protection overnight. There has never been any social movement that I know of in which everyone suddenly agreed to the reform in a very short period of time. Most reforms take many, many years of work, campaigns, and debates. If the mainstream public does embrace concern for animals enough to slow down their consumption of meat, this surely would not happen overnight. Instead, there would be a gradual drop in demand, and farmers would breed fewer animals to fill that demand. (Most commercially farmed animals today are bred through artificial insemination.) We have seen this in the past with supply and demand. In the 80's and early 90's, more people shunned beef in favor of chicken. Consequently, fewer cattle were bred and slaughtered and more chickens were raised. When Atkins-insanity hit, more cattle were bred and raised to fill the demand for more beef. So, it's doubtful that there will be a sudden widespread conversion that will leave huge numbers of farm animals running wild.
It's not an issue because it would never happen so quickly. The demand for animals would slowly decrease and therefore the animals just wouldn't be born. It would be so cool if there was a sudden shift though. Cow induced anarchy would be great fun. TTFN Sage
Or.... the folks eating more than 3 oz. of meat per day will die prematurely of their over-consumption. There's always hope.
