Does anyone here camp by bicycle? Heck do yo even ride one? I ussually put about 1000 mile a year on a bike, but haven't camped yet using it. Right now I'm located in central Ohio which is not very bicycle friendly, heck it ain't even car friendly. The metro parks have some trails but to ride along the shoulderless roads is suicide. Might be better away from the city but the thing is to get out of the city. Dave
i havent camped by bicycle yet, but i have been hoping to this summer, well thats one of my goals for the summer.... sorry i am not really any help but... good day to ya...
i did a cross country bike tour across the US (from WA to NH). if you have any questions, just ask and i'll do my best to answer.
i ride my bike often enough, and have often taken it camping. i would suggest packing your bike up with all your gear and taking it for a test spin. a fully loaded bike is quite a bit different than one with nothing on it. i myself am going to attempt my first interstate trip. so if anyone has tips for riding in the northwestern u.s. let here them.
are you going to be doing moutains or are you going to try and stay away from them? if your going to be biking in washington state, be ready for rolling hills. the mountain climbs aren't that tough, but there tedious as your going up and down all day. and if your going to do interstate, know the road laws for those states. some states allow bikes on the highway and some do not. living outside isn't that hard as long as you have the gear. and like you said, take your bike out for a test spin with it all loaded up.
Go for it if you like. It's possible, but I've decided it's not for me. Bicycling is Great. Camping is Great. Doing them together: [1] Requires too much gear {2 kinds} [2] Too much work {setting up at the end of a long day}, [3] Too much work again {hauling all the gear on your bicycle} But it IS an inexpensive way to go.
On the other hand there IS a way where camping/biking works great. Mountain biking from a central location. Set up camp once, and ride out in different directions every day. I guess that would work for road biking too, if you could find the right central location.
aloh there, anyone know a thing or two about chopper (bike as with the peddles and what not)? any other brand apart from the raleigh ones? (cause their butt ugly) but Iv seen other ones...not so butt ugly, and not so raliegh. Well if you could help me out, it'd help me...quite alot. why thanks anyway *wave*
I just really started getting back into biking these past couple of months decided I'd rather have a steller bike then a car so I dropped $500 on a beautiful new bike and I've been on the trails atleast twice a week since and I commute by bike a few times a week. I'm actually off on a big 4 day bike tour this week, it's a lake shore trail and my destination is one of my favourite places in the land, Kingston Ontario, should be good times. what do you guys ride and what type of riding are you into?
i would LOVE to try a bike-camping trip. i'll find someplace flat, get myself a sturdy cruiser, equip it with saddlebags or maybe a little cart, and keep going till i hit a mountain. i was thinking of trying this in the netherlands, actually, because they're so flat and the climate's so gentle. anyone know if there's decent camping in the netherlands?
I found this article about someone who rode around Britain camping on a bicycle. Thought you might find it interesting/inspriring. It says he has a blog somewhere that he kept on his trip -- 3 months, 4,000 miles riding around Britain!
