I don't know if there has been a recent thread about this movie, but who else thinks this movie is HILARIOUS?!?!?!? With such classic lines/scenes as: "These go to eleven..." and the hysterical airport scene.
Hah I almost started a Spinal Tap thread this morning. That's gotta be the funniest movie ever. My favorite lines (off the toppa my head): Derek: People should be envying us, you know. David: I envy us. Derek: Me too. Airport Security: Do you have any artificial plates or limbs? Derek: Er... not really. David: We say, "Love your brother." We don't say it really, but... Nigel: We don't literally say it. David: No, we don't say it. Nigel: We don't really, actually mean it. David: No, we don't believe it either, but... Nigel: But we're not racists. David: But that message should be clear. LOOOOOOOL!!!!!!
I really like this movie also: "They actually dont know whos vomit it was...you can't really dust for vomit" "Listen to the harmonics...uhhhahhhhhhh...well you cant really hear...although you would though...if it were playing"
This is awesome!!! I'm glad to see that people actually like the film! Most people I mention the movie to have no idea what I'm talking about.
Including the keyboardist, because he's got two hands. More great lines: "How much more black could it be? The answer is none. None more black." "There's a fine line between stupid... and... and clever."
On my top ten favorite movies. Watched it one time with a freind, (God rest her soul) who wasn't the brightest crayon in the box, and she kept saying, "If this band was so popular, why didn't I hear about them before." And I keep telling her, "It's a joke, there is NO Spinal Tap, that is the dude from Lenny and Squiggy." And she kept going on about how no, it looks so real, and stuff. And that definately is a rock star, not the dude from Lenny and Squiggy. We had to wait until the end, when they have the fake commercial, and they TELL you there is no record or tape to buy and that Spinal Tap isn't real band for her to beleive me. There is something pathetically funny about then standing at Elvis' tomb at Graceland, trying to harmonize "Heartbreak Hotel" and messing it up. (When we went to Graceland a few years ago, Bear and I kept giggling remembering this scene, and all these old, chubby ladies in Bermuda shorts are crying at the grave, and flowers are being put there, and Bear and I are laughing about Spinal Tap.) I think this movie made rock stars look at the way they present themselves on TV and movies. People don't want to be labeled "Spinal Tapesque."
My personal fave scenes are the beautiful piano piece called "Lick My Love Pump" and also the bassist Harry Shearer in the coccoon scene. This movie did indeed show the low parts of rock life in the funniest light possible! And then there are the later Tap efforts, a follow up movie and a couple appearances. I saw one show with Mick Fleetwood on drums, but he had to have a medical team with him at all times to ensure he survived the performance.
And of course, some immortal song lyrics such as: "Big bottom, big big bottom, Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em." And: "Sex farm woman, I'm gonna mow you down, Sex farm woman, I'll rake and hoe you down."
^^Yeah, and then there's that line from "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You": "You're sweet, but you're just four feet, and you've still got your baby teeth. You're young, and I'm too well-hung, but tonight I'm gonna rock you..." lmao! BUT... I think we all know the absolute funniest part. The Stonehenge scene!!!!!
^ Actually, I think the full title of that song is "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" lmao And yeah, Stonehenge... "Hundreds of years before the dawn of history..." LMAOOO!
I was gonna make a thread about this movie. It's incredibally helarious. Rob Reiner is a friggin genoius, and "Sex farm" is the raunchiest song I've ever heard.
Hey, has anyone seen "A Mighty Wind"? Hilarious! Not as classic as the original Tap, but still hilarious. There was one song almost as funny as Stonehenge... "The Skeletons of Quinto" lmao
Mighty Wind was great. Especially if you are familiar with the Folk Rock scene from the 60s and 70s. This comedy troup also did a movie on Dog Shows called "Best In Show" which was hilarious.
Yeah, and then there was also "Waiting For Guffman", also hysterical!!! It's a "mockumentary" about theater, for those who are unfamiliar with the title..
