The state and county authorities are already trying to crackdown on dog and cock fights.The perpetrators caught are charged to the fullest extent including racketeering and illegal gambling. There isn't much more that can be done unless entire cultures are changed. Mexican and South Americans love their dog/cock fights, they have been having them for centuries.They will continue to have them whether it's legal or not. Perhaps,HSUS should donate money to the animal cops that bust these illegal rings so that more people can be put onto investigations and better surveillance equipment can be aquired. But what? why do that when everyone can donate all their money to HSUS and PeTA?!! They need all the money right? The campaign wont help unless HSUS is directly donating the money they recieve for this campaign to the local authorities that handle animal-crimes.
I think they need to start making harsher punishments for those who fight, and with any other form of abuse. I remember one news article I read about a woman who starved 3 of her pit bulls. Two of them died and when the authorities were called, they found the third dog eating them because he was so hungry. The woman got TWO DAYS in jail. TWO DAYS!!! I also think that they should start lisensing dog OWNERS instead of the dogs, and people that break animal laws should NOT be able to own animals again. Sure, they take away the first dog, but they don't care when the person goes out the next day and gets another. Rappers DMX and Eve encourage fighting and have actually spoken out that they think it should be legal. They have portrayed fighting images in their videos. I will never support them, and I discourage people to support them.

Please be careful of HSUS and PETA. That is if you are a true animal lover. They have hidden and not so hidden agendas. I love my pets and hope to be able to have them for the rest of my life but some groups behind the scenes are not of the same mind set. Yes dog or any aminal fighting is horrible and should be stopped but not until the masses scream for satisfation will the problem be stopped. ANd BSL is just BS. Look into who some of the sponsers of that legislation is, you might be surprised.
