Supposedly, Romania is one of the better places for them to live. So I would say no.

Maybe when Ceaucescu was in power people got away with it. There's loads of Roma refugees in Ireland from back then.

when ceausescu was in power, there was illegal to leave romania.
gypsies ran first, but after them there came a lot of romanian imigrants(not refugees)-> i think u don't understand the meaning of this word....

I have a few things to say to oblivionesse and I dont know anything about you but when i read this topic this is the impression i got from you.

ladylocks was asking a question meaning she does not know the answer to the question she posed...so to call someone crazy is not nesscary. Secondly I believe as soon as you read the question this allowed you to affirm your probable beliefs on American ignorance. And asking question is not being ignorant it is in search of the truth.

refugee - One who flees in search of refuge, as in times of war, political oppression, or religious persecution. (dictionary.com)

    so

if refugee's left because ceausescu was in power aka political oppression which means you can label them as refugees

20 kilometres north-east from where I live is a forest named Dronninglund Storskov. In 1850 (or some of these years) there was a camp of romas in that forest. The local farmers went to that forest with their shotguns and they shot dead all the romas - men, women, children. The whole camp.
Then we've had several fascist regimes that also murdered romas later in european history, but I think the episode mentioned above was the last genocide on romas made on danish ground in history. At least I think that was the last documented genocide.
Nowadays most danish romas are living in the town named Helsingør, north of Copenhagen. They're living in suburban concrete ghettos.

    love and understanding,
    wolf.

no,it's not legal to kill gypsies.actually they have more rights than romanians.for instance, every college has to admit at least a roma student, regardless of the results at admiting tests, while romanians have to face much greater competition.i find that a bit unfair,as citisens of the same country, they should have equal rights.
for christ's sake,i get more discrimnated for my long hair than they do for their skin colour and habits.

and there is no connection between romas and romanians.

LOL , I was just about to see if Easyjet went to Bucharest!:)
    _______________
I ve known a number of "travellers" and Romanies.
And I have to say theres a proportion of them that dont give the cause of Gypsies any good.
Basically criminals ( into drugs and similar stuff) , but the main point is that because they dont have any permanent residence or traceability , they can be bullies and cowards towards other people.
ie they can smash someones house /face up easily then disappear without trace.
ie they can get away with things people who have a permanent residence and proper name cant easily get away with.

In places like Romania and Bulgaria ( and a lesser extent western europe)these can be heavy , heavy duty criminals .Dangerous , very unpleasant people.
Not the nicking car hub cap types.

And the scummy pick pocket/ and card trick types can work in teams - ranging from little kids to old grandmas.

As the law has no record of who actually exists in the Gypsy population , in can be hard to class a killed one as a "missing " person.

Maybe this is how some gypsy killings go unmarked?

Personally I think theres number of gypsies who need to get their own houses in order before they complain so much about how others treat them.
I mean if their communities didnt protect the lowest of their criminals , then there wouldnt be the animosity back?

Anyway , does anyone know if Tinkers are open season in Slovakia?:)
