Okay for some reason recently i have really been considering getting mine pierced, i have always wanted one but for some reason a few yrs back when every 12 yr old was getting them, it turned me off a bit, but now i dont care and i just want one for me. But i have some questions, for those of you who have them, how bad does it hurt? i saw a video of a huge needle sticking through and then being pulled out, then an earing being pulled through, it looked pretty bad. and everyone i know has an infection, is it hard to keep it from getting infected or are these people just not caring for them right? basically it would be good to hear anything you hafto say about belly piercings. thanks.

i first did mine myself when i was 13 or 14, then i got it done professionally when i was 15. It hurt pretty bad....but i've had piercings that have hurt worse (nose, lip) I think it hurt more too, because i was new to the whole body piercing thing. So i didn't even know what to expect. I also have really sensitive skin, so every piercing ive ever had, except my clit, has been infected, swollen, sore, pussey and gross, but eventually after the first maybe....6mos-1yr, it stops, and hasn't come back since. The only time my belly ring ever got really infected was when my crazy ex tried ripping it out, and it was BAD for like 3 months, but i refused to take it out like a stubborn 16 yr old. Anyways, my dr gave me meds for it, and it healed it pretty quick. The only thing is...don't expect it to heal right away, i think that was my biggest fault....i always touched and played with it, (which is really really bad for ANY new piercing) on top of it being irritated from natural movement, and my pants. Anyways, i've had mine for about 6 years now, and haven't ever taken it out except to clean it, and now my belly looks REALLY REALLY weird without it in, just cuz im not used to it...that's theonly think i hate about piercings....you get so used to the way you look with one, that once they're out, you're liek AHHH I LOOOK SICK! lol wow i just wrote a novel im sorry! haha

_Mine was painless. Completely & absolutely pain-free. We all have different levels of pain tolerance & what might be a painful experience to me might not be one to you.

Some of the typical aftercare suggestions are:

    - Anti-bacterial soap
    - Sea salt soaks
    - Ibuprofen for pain & swelling
    - No touching or manipulating it -specially if your hands have not been washed-
    - & loose articles of clothing

From my experience, be careful w/showering, my barbell got stuck in my scrubbing-net-type-thing & it was not pretty, I pulled on it -it was 2 days old the piercing- & it got irritated -not to mention how much it hurt-

This might be even more helpful :: Navel piercing aftercare information

Mine was painful.. but I am terrified of needles.. So I get freaked easilly.. I nearly passed out afterwards... But Its wasnt to bad.. I would do it again... Mine got infected.. Its in one of those spots where it gets irritated pretty easilly... Pants, kitchen counters, sleeping on it... all kinds of things that you never noticed touch your navel you will after its pierced .. But once it healed it was good

I got my belly pierced just 4 or 5 days ago:D
Didn't hurt at all, it was actully more painful when it was my ears...
I gues it's to early to say anything about infection yet, but it looks pretty good to now, I hope it wont get infected, cause then my parents will use it as a "thats exactly why we would had said no if you ever had asked" thing :p

If you really want it done, do it. The pain wont last forever, and if you clean it really good and doesn't shubb it into everything on your path, it's less chance for it to be infected:)

mine healed very fast (all my piercings tend to heal fast though) and i still have the ring in that it was pierced with. it hurts.....but only for a second and then it's over and you have that cute piercing you've been wanting. :D wear all your pants below the belly button untill it heals so as not to irritate it. go for it chica!

they have pants above the belly button?

i can't comment on pain, as i dont have one, but i can say what would be best carewise

-light cleaning with satin soap, provon, or even dial for sensitive skin. and a qtip.

-sea salt soaks (ONLY USE SEA SALT). belly buttons are kinda hard to invert a cup over,so maybe a hot salty washcloth or something. you only have to do these for the first month, before you go to bed and probably when you wake up

-and for the first month, wear low pants (becasue apparently they make different kinds) and loose tops or crop tops. i would suggest the loose clothes first, only becaue it protects against snags and what

    Hope it goes well!

i just meant to wear real low slung pants so that they don't rub on the piercing. most pants today are very low waisted anyway........
but yeah they do have pants that rise above the belly button....you should see some of the women at our local walmart:p

none of my body piercings acoutaly hurt mroe than a regular piercing, my sis just had her belly done for her 18th birth day and she said it wasnt bad at all just make sure not to play with it to much(especialy with dirty/germyt hands), and just remeber that you have it pieced so you dont go to take you shirt of to quickly etc, and catch it. ooo and just make sure you dont have any metal allergies or this can cause infectiona dn you have to remove it and let it close( tahts what happend to my dest friends ear piercings).

    Okay, it's called navel piercing..

I got mine when I was 12-13. The reason everyones is probably infected is because noone probably knows or follows the proper aftercare because they are all just getting the piercing cuz it looks pretty and such and don't worry about after they have it. I'm not saying this is the case for everyone who has a navel piercing though..

As for pain (I hate this question), it's different for everyone. Just be mentally prepared and I think you'll be fine. Follow the aftercare instructions and maybe do a few seasalt soaks and it won't get infected.

    Enjoy the piercing:)

Hiiiii. I'm where you are, or rather.. I was.

I'm 18. I've always wanted my bellybutton pierced, but like you, didn't because everyone else turned me off from the idea.

Finally, in June, I did get it pierced. Now, I am HORRIBLE and have absolutely no pain tolerance, and getting my bellybutton pierced didn't hurt me at all. I felt a little pinch, didn't look at all, and it was over.

I made the mistake of not caring for mine, so it was a little red around the holes. Now, however, I am caring for it and it's beginning to heal. I think a lot of people just don't care for it properly.

The thing about bellybutton piercings is that they take awhile to heal, so it won't be perfect for a little while.. but if you want it, it's well worth it.

    Hope this helped!

Haha, it does seem like preteens are getting them more and more :D
I got mine done forever ago and it didnt hurt at all from what i can remember..
But like what someone else stated peoples tolerance for pain is different for the individual..
The thing that was uncomfortable to me was the clamping..the needle felt like a minor bee sting.. it was over fast and plus you cant see them doing it cause i was laying on my back and it just happen real fast and it was over..
Mine never got infected but gets a little irritated when im in the shower and my bodywash sponge loofa thing (whatever its called) gets caught on it..
When i first got it i just kept it clean and took care of it like they tell ya too...

i got mine done about 2 yrs ago, i dont think it hurt i also got a skin piercing just below the old belly button that was pretty cool until it got ripped out. My advice to anyone even thinking about getting a piercing - just do it! then again i am kinda hooked now

I got mine last year, and it hurt and that piercing guy needed so long to do it so the pain became painfuller. sometimes it gets a bit infectet but not for long and that doesn't hurt at all, but I clean it often and never touch it so I don`t really know the reason

Most people don't know this but navel pierces can have some very nasty side effects. There's a meridian that runs through the navel that when pierced can give you the shits. A friend of mine began having major intestinal issues and uncontrolable bowels about a month after she got her navel pierced.

Sorry if I turned anyone off from getting their navel done, but it's good to know all the facts before it's too late.
