It has come to my attention that many people that post here think that pot has a physically addciting quality to it. I think that is complete and utter bullshit. Pot is a drug and many people use it to escape from thier problems. They become psychologically addicted. It is proven this can happen to many. The power of the mind is so strong that you might even experience physical symptoms if you try to quit. But there is no such thing as someone who is addicted physically to THC. It has no properties that make you "want" or "need" to smoke pot. Most habitual users do so for one reason- it feels good!
I think people don't necessarily get addicted to marijuana but become attached to the pleasant therapeutic and medicinal qualities it yields. I can take or leave pot whenever I choose, infact I think it's better when I do abstain for a while as it's nice to be normal then it's nice to buy a bit.
Let's clarify this issue once and for all. THERE ARE NO PHYSICALLY ADDICTIVE SUBSTANCES IN MARIJUANA. Which means, you CANNOT form any sort of addiction to marijuana other than a MENTAL addiction. You won't become hooked on it like you would alcohol or nicotine or caffeine. It is impossible. What can happen, is because it is a mood enhancer and pain killer, your mind gets slowly builds a tolerance to the drug so you need more to feel what you did the first time. However, while most would say "Oh, that right there is physical addiction!" No, it isn't. If you were to stop smoking for as little as a week to two weeks, you would suffer NO withdrawal symptoms. You may want some, but your body doesn't crave it the way a heroin or caffeine freak craves their respective drugs. After the "fast" your tolerance will have lowered by quite a noticeable bit and you will be back to the point where a little goes the distance it used to as opposed to when you have to smoke several more bowls to get that feeling. Dealing with mental addiction, ANYTHING can becaome a mental addiction. Television is probably the biggest mental addiction, but people never think of it that way. Many hobbies can take over our minds and we concentrate on them most of the time or have many thougts related to these things and we feel a compulsion to do them. Can you be physically addicted to televsion? No, that nonsense. But you CAN develop a mental addiction to it, perhaps without ever realizing it. The same goes for marijuana. If there is nothing in the herb that can cause a physical addiction, how do we justify people gaining physical addictions? When you break it down, it makes no sense. Mental addiction, sure, LoL. That's what alot of potheads have. But as for the argument of physical addiction, it doesn't exist. By the way, 98% of the marijuana that grows freely in the wild burned annually by the US Government doesn't even contain enough THC in it to get you high. We're burning a plant that isn't potent enough to alter your mental state, can be woven into canvas, rope, clothing, a seasoning for food, a meal stimulant, mood enhancer, pain reliever, and cancer fighter. We're basically burning valuable medication. If the government decided to burn a pile of Prozac and Prevacid, I'd bet there'd be a public outcry. But the government is burning valuable medicines for AIDS patients, glaucoma sufferers, cancer strugglers, etc. and the voices speaking out against this are silenced because they are advocating "evil." Think about it.
thank you. I'm glad there are more of you out there who have chosen to do some research and get rid of the information that we were brainwashed to believe!
You're half right. You say 98% of the burned cannabis is non-psychoactive (containing very little THC). True. You say that it can be made into canvas, rope, clothing, seasoning. True. But meal stimulant, mood enhancer, and pain reliever? False; these are all attributed to THC. And THC does not fight cancer, it just helps people cope with some symptoms. That it helps shrink tumors is inconclusive and not proven.
Its not that Cannabinoids shrink cancer.... its been proven in lab mice research that it does help prevent and stop the growth of certain cancers and tumors... not that its a cure.. it just helps stop it from growing and getting worse.... there were earlier studies done in the 70s that showed cannabinoids helped stop the growth of cancer in mice and prolonged their lifes up to 36%
Its not a drug, its a plant that grow naturally, there for it is a controled substense. But I agree, its not addictive, say like coke!
why does everyone have to compare its addictiveness to coke... you can compare it to way smaller and legal drugs... such as caffine.... caffine is way more addictive than marijuana... asprin is more addictive than marijuana... not saying that marijuana is an addictive plant.... but there are people with addictions to it... anyone can be addicted to anything.... finger nails dont have any addictive properties but people are addicted to biting them.....
right, but my point is that if you stop biting your fingernails, you might experience a little anxiousness or something, but that doesn't mean you are physically addicted compared to someone who wakes up and drinks coffee every morning; if they stop they can get headaches or nausea because caffine creates a chemical dependence in oyur body.
yes... if anything marijuana is under "Mental Addiction" instead of Physical Addiction.. for the fact that you only think you're addicted to it.. unlike physical which can cause all sorts of problems..
Either way, there's almost no THC or other cannabinoids in wild hemp (the 98% of what is burned), so they still aren't destroying medicinaly helpful cannabis in the burning (except for the 2%).
oh yea.. i understand that.. ditch weed is pointless.. let'em burn it... that way they think they found a big bust and they leave the rest of us alone lol.... bunch of dumbasses cops are
My opinion is, it's a plant. Daffodils, milkweed, oleander... etc are deadly, why aren't they outlawed? For the good of the people?... Outlawing a plant that's been around before humans is just fucking ignorant.
yeah people are only addicted to the feeling it gives you it is a peaceful place to be and that's why they are addicted
while i completely agree with the fact that it's not physically addicting at all, the mental addiction can take it's toll. my old best friend was severly depressed and started to smoke for fun....but it came to the point, where he would tell us that it was the only way that he could get out of bed in the morning, as it was the only thing that he had to give him the (mental) strength to go on. sadily, he's since gotten bored with it, and has now moved on to more harmful things and, well, is just not the person he used to be. all the people we grew up with he's alienated himself from and just doesn't seem to have any drive for life. I've tried talking to him about it, and he's just gotten upset with me, along with the other people who've tried. i guess that I have mixed feelings about it...
well i dunno about you people but i smoke every day, and when i dont smoke, i have the worst time possible trying to get to sleep. that right there is an affect that gives many people a physical 'want' or desire to get stoned. i become irritable and angry when i have no weed. a mental addiction is someteims worse than a physical one. after all, we are the mind, and the mind is us. if the mind wants it.. we want it.. but if the body wants it, its someteims easier to get through. for example, i drink heaps of coffee. but when i dont, i feel tired and can get headaches. but i can persevere as long as i can stay awake if i want to. but with weed.. i DONT want to. if you can take a break.. then your not psychologically addicted. most of the people who preach against psychological addictions are not and have not been psychologically addicted. see the whole point of a psychological addiction is that the person wants it. since the addiction is psychological, so are the withdrawal effects. its all about why you smoke weed. and because of my reasons, i suffer frustration with things that happen and people do. boredom, but not just boredom, it makes me angry to be bored, since it wouldnt be the case if i JUST HAD SOME WEED! at the same time, its not really a problem if ive got weed at home but i arent smoking it. as long as its there, im fine. but if theres no -option- when i would like to smoke, thats when i get angry. caus its all in vain... nowi can go withuot weed with no real negative effects, the affects above are only when things really get to me. i dont care that some call if 'weak' or whatever. its not a matter of pride or health, so why not keep it up
