my snake has been trying eat my left index finger for the last two hours, its clamped on up to the knuckle. damn thing just wont let go.

its mouth and teeth are not not large enough or strong enough even break my skin, but its not comfortable. anyone know how to tell a snake my hand is too big for it too swallow. vinagar hasnt worked

Its a young black king snake, and I bought him knowing he was biter. So its not the first time hes struck at me, but it is the first time its hung on for more than couple minutes

run tap water over him or put put your hand underwater.....could put an ice cube on his head....

of coarse it probably would be a good idea not to let the snake bite your finger in the first place...

LOL, sorry but it just seems funny :p Did you get him off yet? Try other stuff he doesn't like -hot sauce or something. Or indeed water, or an ice cube... or a blowdryer (don't hold it so close it'll hurt but he may startle from the wind & noise and let go).

I got him off, he didnt seem to like the cold shower to much.

it's been growing, so maby Im not feeding him enough, and he thought my finger looked like lunch. there also could have been some sent on my hands he liked too.

from what iv read young king snakes are alway nervous and nippy. they're soposed to tame up as they get a older (larger). it should be 3-4feet long when its fully grown.

my snake is almost identicle to the one in the center picture of the link

the more you handle it, the more it will get used to you. do you handle him/her a lot? if you don't open his cage much, s/he might associate the tank opening with feeding time. if i open the cage after not playing with my snake for a little while, she darts over to the water, waiting for a fish as soon as the lid pops up. you could try feeding your snake in a second tank, then he doesn't automatically think "food" when it sees your hand. that might help for the future.

im allready ahead of you on that, I feed him in seperate container then place that container back in the cage, and he dose get handled regularly.

He has calmed down a lot since I bought him. the first few months I had him I coudnt put my hand in the cage with out him striking. some soft leather gloves helped with that, I could slip my hand out and let it munch on the glove for a few minutes. it dosnt strike at the gloves any more, but it will go for a bare finger once in a while.

Sorry to laugh, but I was just about rolling on the floor when I read this :) But glad you got him off without injury to you or the snake.

I have a parrot that seems to think my fingers and *especially* toes are chew toys.

By the way, you type very well one-handed :)
