Don't know how much push this is getting, but I read somewhere about strapping sex offenders with an electronic ankle bracelet after they are home. I'm a Sag, I'm all for raging against the system, but I'm completely behind this; even if it is an invasion of privacy. Maybe I could get some thoughts.
I am sooo in support of this..especially if it's for pedophiles and convicted molestors/child-rapists. I'm so sick of hearing about all these little kids getting nabbed and killed by their next-door neighbor who is a convicted sex-offender..knowing that something could have been done to prevent it.
I'm all for it, but first a better definition of sex-crime is needed in this country. Pissing in public is a sex-crime, and if one is to relieve themselves as nature dictates, they may end up on a sex-offender registry. No shit. But for pedophiles and rapists? I'm oppossed to capital punishment, so I might as well be for ankle bracelets. If there were no government, no system, sex offenders would likely be lynched in public anyway.
I feel that. I think parents just can't help but picturing it happening to their own and want everything done to make sure it doesn't. Nice angle. But do you think after awhile people will aim to be lynched and won't care? Sounds like a scare tactic that would cut the rate down, but it's the monsters on a suicide mission that are really horrifying.
Well sure, but neither ankle things, lynching, jailtime, community service, shock therapy or anything is going to be a deterrent to them. Following this logic, it's an evil that will always curse the earth. An answer, like so many of societies other problems, lies in a deeper holistic prevention.
They should have been doing that years ago, and they should be monitored for life. Personally, I would prefer they be castrated
No I don't think they should be executed but you are absolutely right that we shouldn't have to be worrying about them. Society simply won't pay the costs involved in doing that however. Locking folks up for life is simply too expensive when a shrinks says 'He won't re-offend'. Maybe when Society as a whole is ready to pay the price of our responsibilities to kids things will be different. As it is now the very people who need the protection of society are the very ones who are disenfranchised and voiceless. Ben
I'm going to step out on a limb here and say no, they shouldn't do this. Maybe some of them are pathological, but then, an ankle band won't stop those ones anyways. The ones that can be reformed are going to be living every day with this constant reminder of how terrible a person they are. How can one ever move on when they're being loaded with all that guilt? Aren't we trying to rehabilitate criminals? This won't do it, that's for sure, its like psychological warfare. I'm all for a registry, but this is a bit much in my opinion. (By the way, I hear sex offenders don't fare very well in prison, since even hardened criminals hate a child rapist. So on top of having their liberties removed via prison, they get beaten and raped more than average. If prison alone is considered enough of a punishment, then you add to that the rapes and beatings, wouldn't this be a pretty harsh punishment? Why should we continue with psychological attacks for the rest of their life? If we want to put these people in jail for life, then perhaps the ankle band is alright, since a lifetime of punishment is deemed to be the right amount of time. But since they don't serve such long terms, clearly they "pay their debt to society" in a much shorter time than a whole lifetime. So, once their out, beyond parole issues, the ankle bracelet is overkill).
Well that implies that all sex offenders are male. Or pray tell where do we put it besides the ankle on women?
right around the forehead so we all can see it? BTW Colorado 's judiciary committee (in teh state house) killed a bill that would limit where sexual predators could live /work...like schools. Of the 31 registered sex offenders in the community I cover, two are women.
In my community NONE of the offenders are womyn. I think we both agree that sex offenses are rare among womyn. Pedophilia cannot be treated OR rehabilitated. These people are walking time bombs. The average pedophile has over 200 victims in his lifetime. *sigh* The majority of SEX OFFENDERS did not get convicted for pissing in public. Most raped and molested. In my state, you get to see the crime they were convicted of on the registry, not only are there NO womyn, but NONE of the men were convicted of pissing in public. Most are rapists, sexual predators and pedophiles. And they are NOT curable. An ankle braclet is somehow appropirate for Martha Stewart who was convicted on trumped up charges, but NOT for some dude who RAPED and SODOMIZED a small child? Poor pedophile, has to wear an ankle braclet, how humiliating......
I am defantely against this, it is an invasion of privacy and will do little if anything to stop these sex offenders
Guess I pissed off some of the womyn by stating something that should be glaringly obvious. Not all sex offenders are men. Take it as you will but somebody has to speak up before this whole thread becomes just one big male bashing session. A woman couldn't possibly commit a sex crime because we all know even if she did it would still be the fault of men right?
WHy do you feel the need to freeze frame someone in the worst act of their life and say that that is all that matters. Thier worst act is all that matters and because of that they are no longer people and should be killed? Youre a douche bag.
I agree. We need more compassion in our thinking, and less judging. Not to say the issue shouldn't be addressed, but we can't forget these people are PEOPLE. Human beings. No one is too far gone so as not to be able to rehabilitate or recieve compassion. It's through compassion that a person might see the light. A child molester is a sick person, and it's our duty to make them healthy, if we can. One who would give up on them, try to forget about them by just putting them in jail for life, or worse, just kill them, has done a disservice to mankind and are themselves sick. They've forgotten to look for the humanity in everyone. So yeah, it's dumb to just see someone at their worst and throw out any good in them, as if it didn't exist.
