Hey guys... I was wondering if any of you have any good SIMPLE ideas for long skirts? I'm going to be in Miami this summer for 3 weeks for a precollege scholars program thingy, and since I hate shorts I need some airy, light skirts to wear that are also decent looking on a bottom-heavy body. I've found lots of skirts on ebay but they tend to be kind of expensive and since my parents haven't worked in 2 years, I don't want to spend $20 on each skirt. So... I have no idea where to begin. I don't even know how much fabric to get. It's rather pathetic. If anyone can help me out, I'd love you forever. I'm also handsewing, and while I'm pretty patient, I don't think I'm patient enough to handsew anything really intricate. Thanks!
www.readymade.com instructions for making pillowcase skirt (one of the back issues) Hippie Crafts new book, shows how to make skirt from old pair of jeans http://www.larkbooks.com/book/CategoryBookDisplay.asp?BookKey=178986 4-H also has a variety of instructional books on sewing, with projects, probably has an easy skirt project in one of them. You can find links to several here: http://www.farmmom.com/clothing.html
Hey, have you thought about crochet? Its really easy to learn (I learned the basic stitches in a couple of days) and you can make really neat lacy light hippy clothes. And they're cheap. some of the patterns out there look SOOO bad, but there are just as many awesome ones, and some may look bad but its just that the colours are terrible. Here's some links for patterns: http://web.archive.org/web/20011215174544/www.cei.net/~vchisam/groovy/7703.html I made a skirt like this, but with better colours and it looks awesome (the colours in the pic are aweful!). All my friends try to steal it. It was really easy because you make the squares and then join them together. Also, I made mine alot shorter. It cost about 6.00 to make (including 1.25 for the needle) and took about a week and a half to make: http://web.archive.org/web/20020214133952/www.cei.net/~vchisam/groovy/04-56.html http://web.archive.org/web/20011030183926/www.cei.net/~vchisam/groovy/41-111hat.html http://web.archive.org/web/20010424...ttp://www.cei.net/~vchisam/groovy/776-12.html There's also other really cute stuff like bikini's: http://web.archive.org/web/20011030180128/www.cei.net/~vchisam/groovy/mt4-bikini.html Kerchiefs: I made one kind of like this, but out of very fine crochet thread and a I put fine beads in it and a fringe. It looks like one my friend from India granmother sent her. http://www.medidit.com/free/headrg.html Or easy hippy hair stuff: http://www.crochetme.com/Feb_Mar_2005/patt_barrettes.html Hope this helps Rowan
