emo is emotionally charged punk rock, there is also post-emo and emocore.
post emo were the origins of emo, bands like Rites of Spring, Embrace, Dag Nasty
I'm more into post-emo <3<3 Saetia, Dag Nasty

NowNDays people know emo by what is shown of it on MTV... its like how people think GC or Blink 182 is punk, when they are just corporate shit. Same thing attributed to shitty bands like MCR, Dashboard Confessionals, Finch.

that picture was taken right before that dude got shot... he was a vietcong soldier...

 

yea i know..i learned about it in art appreciation...it was talking about photo journalism...i was really touched by the photo and thought it was amazing that someone actually took the photo out of love for his art..he had to witness that...aghh..anyways..i just hoped you knew what it was before you posted it...the dude that was being shot was not a very good man either..he was a criminal.

 

I don't know much about EMO, but I like the band Bright Eyes and someone told me that that was EMO, so if it is, then I apparently like at least some of it.

 

Emo is sad.

 

I saw that photo in a museum in Saigon once... I'd agree it's pretty powerful. There is a lot of amazing photography from that war but SO many of the people who took them ended up dead themselves. I remember reading the story behind that photo although I forget the details now... Something dramatic happened a few seconds after it was taken (other than the POW being shot obviously)....

I have a lot of respect for people willing to put themselves in those situations for their photography...

As for Brighteyes, I wouldn't call him emo exactly although he does have kinda emo lyrics haha.. Dunno what I'd describe him as though, maybe folk/emo?
