as long as I am here, might as well ask... I need to sort of sew up some fake boots out of clothe... anybody got some tips on how to make it or am I doomed to sew it the same way I sew everything else (winging it)?
Oh, I sew very well. I don't know how I do it though... everything I attempted has been a success But I don't know where to begin with this. Just like the gloves I just finished sewing...
This is just an idea, as i've never actually sewn fake boots... but i'd start by tracing a shoe of yours onto a piece of cloth for the sole, then using one piece of cloth to wrap around the back and come over the sides, and another for the "tongue" that would extend from the front of the sole to the front of the ankle (or calf if the boots are higher) and meet up with the side/back panel. Sew all those edges together, and voila, a boot! Haha. I'm sure it will take some trial and error, but if you look at a pair of your boots and try to envision them as three separate pieces of fabric, that might help. I'd just start with the basic pieces, and pin them around your foot to get a better measurement. Also if you don't want laces or velcro, make sure to leave the ankle wide enough for your foot, and if the fabric is flimsy, starch the hell out of it. I don't think you could get a decent looking boot that wasn't all pointy and elvin without at least 3 pieces. Good luck!
ok, i have to ask, why are you making "fake" boots? does that mean you'll only wear them indoors? or do you mean fake leather...?
I'm curious too, what are fake boots? If it's what I am imagining, finding a pattern or instructions for Indian moccassins may help.
Dude, there just boots that aren't meant to be like used for real and stuff for a costume.... and are made of clothe and the whatnot.
