so i'm going to canada next week. for two or three days i'll be going to toronto to see the city, and apart from hotel reservations i have no set schedule for those days. the 16th and 17th i'll be seeing some plays in stratford. does anybody have any suggestions about places to go or things to do in toronto or stratford (particularly in the evenings)? i am 19, if that matters.

i'd like to find someplace nice to get a few drinks one or two nights, and any other suggestions of ways to keep me occupied.

if you have any ideas please give me any and all relevant (or irrelevant) information about the place, atmosphere, etc.

if anyone is particularly interested in meeting me (not that i assume anyone is), you could pm me and maybe we could.

thanks for any help folks :)

which plays are you seeing? i used to love going to the stratford festival. :)

i used to date a guy who lived there, but all we ever did was hang around, listen to music and drink. and that was a zillion years ago. um, there's a park with swans...i dont know what it's called, but it's probably near one of the theaters. the swans are pretty anyways.

    sorry, i'm no help

hope you enjoy your visit to onterrible :p . hopefully it wont be too humid while you're there.

I love Toronto! When I go there I like to just walk around the city and take the subway from place to place, basically just soaking up the environment. I don't really know what you're into, so I can't really give any recommendations. I really like Queens St., which is like the artistic, bohemian part of the city. I really like the vibe and there are a lot of cool record shops lining the streets, too. Stop and talk to some of the bums in Galaxy Donuts while you're there.

matt...in the past i have always loved walking around in chinatown and in some of the arts-oriented areas. i've always hit up museums with my family, and i may still go to one but i'm looking for something different to do as well. i think your idea sounds the best, really.

i'm seeing midsummer night's dream and macbeth

I agree with Mr Magu... Queen Street is an excellent place to hang out for a while and shop... check out www.canada.com or www.toronto.com for events to better plan your stay, there's always stuff posted there...

Try a walk along Queen St. , but on the east end, then walk south to Kew beach and the Boardwalk, take a drink at the Boardwalk Cafe. Take the TTC Streetcar...kinda neat for out of town folk.
Other stuff like Casa Loma (an old historic castle), the ROM (Royal Ontario Musem), CN Tower, Imax movie at Ontario Place, The Sience Center, walk Yonge St. up and down. And I think Harbour Front has some free cultural concerts down around pier 3 and just west is The Pier 4 Restaurant and a Latin dance bar..boom boom... have fun

If possible, I'd cancel your reservations in Toronto and go to Ottawa instead. Toronto just isn't that interesting of a city when it comes down to it. It's been years since I was there, and although I could easily go there on a regular basis, there's nothing about it that really compels me to go there anytime soon. Be prepared for disappointment.

ok so it's probably too late and you've already been to tdot already, BUT for for everyone else --
check out the annex. -- bloor west @ bathurst so so cool, go down bathurst around college, and a little further west then your in little italy, there are lots of cool bars there. I personally like Sneaky Dee's -- cheap cheap cheap a pitcher of Red Barron (CDN beer) is only like $9.50. It's kind of a hole, but it feels like home :p it's right at Bathurst and College.

Definatley check out Kensington Market very very cool. I saw Woody Harrelson at the Hot Box Cafe (in Roach o Rama) last week. It's really really chill there -- but also kinda chilly this time of year as well as the cafe is outdoors so wear a big sweater! They make the BEST sandwiches and pie too. mmmm pie.

Queen is ok, it's very trendy now though, make sure you head west past spadina and there are lots of shops -- record and art shops, clothing shops that are more unique than lost of the shops between university and spadina.
The ROM is free on Friday nights, and the AGO is free on Wednesday nights so if you're strapped 4 cash that's always a good plan.
Who ever said Toronto isn't great i just sadly shake my head at you...I LOVE this city -- you just gotta know where to go.
Also, a walk through Cabbagetown is always nice this time of year, but it may be out of your way...there's a farm there too!
    Yay for Toronto!
