I know its a 2 billion dollar a year industry, but honestly, how is it legal to do that with one's personal PC? it really boggles my mind. Its my fucking computer. Why should it be legal for someone to install software on it other than myself? I just don't get it.

spyware, I think is illegal, as is any software installed without your permission

most of what you have, is probably adware, which is perfectly legal, because you clicked "ok" on the EULA, without reading it.

all those nifty little helper programs, "free" games and such....that's where it comes from.

I honestly don't recall clicking on any of it and the thing that bothers me is that they hide it so you can't remove it from you add/remove program list. I really wish congress would pass legislation against this crap - its ridiculous

ya know, I'm almost think the software companies that develop programs to remove adware are in cahoots with the ones that make the adds. One can't exist without the other.

There's no reason for them to be illegal. When you install them, you sign a contract saying that you agree to whatever they may do to your computer. The fact that you didn't read the contract means nothing.

yeah, internet explorer doesn't ask you to install them, it just goes ahead an does it because the idiots who made it thought there would only be legitimate software.

Firefox does a great job at keeping spyware away... for the little stuff I get from bearshare, ad-aware and bazooka take care of them. I haven't had spyware troubles in ages. [IMG]

Funny how its legal tho, saying that isn't spyware more popular than getting a virus nowadays? at least it doesn't completly fuck up your pc i guess

It is legal as by going to a site you also accept whatever cookies are generated with going there.

The following two tools are excellent and will help you to do a deeper clean of your machine.

The JV16 power tool is a registry cleaner, so make sure you know what it is that you are deleting before you do so. Once gone you can not recover the file.

System Mechanic is a trial version for 30 days but works very well. A little hint, after the 30 days use the JV16 tool to remove it from registry and you can download it again and use it for another 30 days and so on and so on ;)

With both of these please make sure you know that you do not need the file....otherwise you will be reformatting. :(

    JV16 site

    System Mechanic site

    http://www.softpicks.net/download.php?index=458&vendor_id=1663

Both of these downloads are clean. :)
