If salvia is the strongest psychotropic known, does that mean it's more effective than peyote? I know peyote's illegal and I've never had it, but if that's the case, then it wouldn't do anything to me at all.
"strongest naturally occurring psychedelic" just means that the pure chemical ("active principle") extracted from the plant (salvinorin-a from Salvia divinorum) is the most potent, _milligram for milligram_, compared to other pure chemmicals extracted from plants/fungi (e.g. mescaline, psilocin, harmine, muscimol, ergine, thc)... ~ now --- as to why you don't feel much when trying out salvia - well, not everybody "gets off" (especially the first few times)...
I was just wondering about that compared to peyote. Honestly I've never had it, but with my experiences with hallucenagens (sp?) so far, I don't hallucinate. It's more of a science experement kind of curiosity at this point. I'd just like to understand why my brain doesn't respond to to stuff like that.
Salvia being the strongest psychotropic known is highly arguable. While some (perhaps even many) will say it's one of the most powerful psychoactives, that's only explaining the overwhelmingness of the experience. Chemically, LSD is more potent than salvinorin-A by a little bit, and 5-MeO-DMT comes in a close 3rd. But the chemical potency doesn't actually matter in terms of the experience's "power," and there is no way to accurately gauge "power" of an experience among psychoactives, because the majority of them can't really be compared. It's kind of like comparing a bunch of fruit. Yeah, the apple may be sweeter than the banana, but the orange tastes like citrus, and coconuts have milk in them. You know what I'm saying? You can't really compare them. Also ... what psychoactives have you tried? I know you've said some things like "psychoactives don't affect me," but I'm under the impression that weed affects you? Well weed is a psychoactive, and I'm just wondering on what data you're basing your statement on. Salvia only?
What makes weed a psychoactive? It's not supposed to make someone hallucinate as far as I've heard. yes, weed does have a very good effect on me. I'm not comparing them so much I'm just curious why hallucinagens don't cause me to hallucinate at all.
Psychoactive. Psycho, active. Active in relation to the psyche. Which relates to consciousness, awareness, and perception. What makes weed NOT a psychoactive? Weed is a hallucinogen in large doses, and I can verify that from personal experience; if you smoke too much, you start seeing geometric patterns and feeling like you're in another dimension, especially if you close your eyes. So it IS a hallucinogen, just not very powerful of one at typical doses. At low doses, Salvia isn't a hallucinogen, and neither are anastesic dissasociatives like Ketamine or PCP. Most of them don't make you hallucinate at low doses. What hallucinogens have you tried (including ALL psychoactives you've tried)? I find it strange to believe that herb would affect you fine, and all other hallucinogens wouldn't, especially when many of them act at similar receptor sites in the brain.
Then let me be the next to say, Salvia is incredible. It doesn't just get you high, it opens your mind and gives you paramount wisdom, if you let it. But, alas, it doesn't give you magic powers. It rules.
I thought psychoactive meant hallucinagine. Beleive me, I've smoked A LOT of pot in one sitting and haven't been anything more than stoned. No hallucinations. I've done a lot of acid in the past and would have incredible body highs but no visuals. Shrooms, some body high, no visuals. Then I got my salvia. I really wanted to have the big sci-fi kind of experience everyone else seems to ahve. I just got my last order today, klip dagga and some of the companie's blends, canabacae (sp?) buds and the free gift they gave me was a solid and I don't know what's in that. I'm interested in trying the dream herb and sun opener next time I order. I really want these otherworldly experiences.
Well, just to clarify, psychoactive and hallucinogenic don't mean the same thing, that's why there are different terms. ^_^ Hmm ... if you are getting physical feelings but not mental distortion from hallucinogens and psychoactives ... I wonder if somehow, somewhere in your body or brain, something isn't happening, and it's causing one effect but not the other? Not to be a rude asshole, but ... have you considered donating yourself to the study of psychoactives? =P I bet scientists might be able to get a lot of interesting data if they could study it. Maybe they could even solve the problem for you. Plus, it might mean free acid.
I can imagine that the extent of what they'd do is have you sign a waiver so you don't hold them responsible for your unlikely illness or death (and other fine print), and then they'd probably just give you drugs and ask you to report what effects they have on you. I also have heard of some experiments where they track molecules by tacking on a harmless radioactive "tag" if you will onto the molecules. Then, they examine the radioactive signal in your body to determine the exact location of it inside you. I don't know if they would do something of that nature (as I'm not a psychoactive scientist), but I would imagine it's a good idea to use that technique. Anyway you could probably get more details. You should try to contact Dr. Shulgin and see if he'll research you. He's an authority on psychoactives; he's the guy who wrote PiHKaL and TiHKaL, which are basically recipies for tons of psychoactives (legal and illegal).
Wow seriously?? Do you get paid at all or you just do the drugs? That would be cool anyway, I'd love to see the results of where the chemicals are inside me! I'd also love to find out if my brain is completely different. I wonder would it have anything to do with the time when I was 13 and I was told I had a small tumor that wouldn't grow or do anything so no one ever bothered with it. I wrote it off as that they probably mixed up the charts or were completely incompetant, as this was a shrink I once saw who did nothing but brain tests.
