Maybe you can give me some insight here. I know that a side effect of the shot is spotting, and i spot every month, somtimes i actually bleed a little bit too. Well when this happens, it makes me relieved, i start thinking "well at least im not pregnant" and i know most people dont even have periods on the shot, and it doesnt mean they are pregnant, its just the way it works. but my question is, Am i giving myself false hope by thinking i am safe when i notice some bleeding? I dont know if that makes since or not, basically since spotting is common on the shot, if you get pregnant will you still spot? I know there are cases of women still bleeding slightly while pregnant, but what about while being on this form of BC, is there a greater chance of bleeding during pregnancy. Im guessing there isnt, but i have not found anything to tell me otherwise. When it comes down to it, i bleed today, and it would be nice if i could be at peace right now thinking that all is good, just like i would be if my period came.
I think it would be an indicator that you aren't pregnant, without being a guarantee. A lot of women still menstruate while on depo, something like a little under half.
If you get your shot EVERY 12 weeks on schedule, and are not late with it, it is highly unlkely you will get pregnant. I never bled, except for the first month on Depo. I did take a few pregnancy tests while I was on it, because I never knew. If you DO suspect pregnancy (especially if you were late with a shot) make sure you do take a pregnancy test, even if you did spot. While you are on Depo, bleeding does not have the same hormonal etiology as menstruation. It really isn't a "period" it is just spotting.
i have never been late with a shot, always on time, so i guess there is little i should be worrying about then.
