I disagree that fat is bad for you per se.What is really bad for you is trans fats found in margarine and some vegetable oils.

LDL fat (found in meat and dairies) IS bad. It clogs your arteries and it leads to a heart attack. HDL (good fat that cleans the arteries) is better (and found in lots of veg*an meals!)

Where did you get your information from? As the name suggests lipoprotein contains fat but it also contains protien. Both HDL's and LDL's are both manufactured in the human liver.

My facts? I got them from my nursing text books (I'm a nursing student).

True, the body produces LDL fat. But it only produces what it needs. When you eat food that contains LDL fat (like butter), your body gets more LDL fat than it needs, which leads to hypercholesterolemia, and eventually a stroke.

    Yeah. Consider this.

No. I like steak, l like burgers, and hell, I enjoy a good meatball every now and again.

    I am a horrible meat-eater.

Do not take into account that i
    • am an activist for animal rights. volunteered at non-kill shelter in northern minnesota for seven years, created and was president of junior kids club for the shelter- pro spay and neuter- low income and free vet clinics.
    • I will never buy a fur coat. I cant afford it, and I like my beavers better in my lake outside my house and i like my chinchilla better in his cage.
    • I protested KFC, MCDONALDS, and a few others for animal abuse cases. I didnt protest because they used animals for food,i protested the method due to it being inhumane.
Theres a difference in standing for a cause and being a recruiter. I am no cult leader- yet i believe animals should not be abused. I continue to eat them- because humans do have canines- proof that all throughout history and centuries, we were meat-eaters. Im not about to deny instinct- and im not about to sit back and let chickens be beat to death at KFC.

I am not of asian culture- so i do not eat dog or cat (fact, not stereo-type) and so you dont have to worry about me harming domesticated house pets. I am not gonna have my HOT DOG in the literal sense. I have conformed to society's way of thinking by 50% by not eating domesticated house pets. However, i will continue to eat meat such as cows and chickens- because im afraid if i completely conform to this view--- my brain will take over, ask me what the hell am I trying to do other than deprive myself of nutrients, and I will spontaneously combust.

There is a fine line, where someone can be an effective activist without being a crazy extremist.

Human *canine* teeth are nothing like a true meat-eating animal. Meat eating animals also have a digestive system that can handle raw flesh. Most people would just get bacterial poisioning.

I'm a vegan and I'm positive I haven't denied myself of any nutrients. All vital nutrients can be found in non-animal sources, or at the very least, in a good vitamin.

I am a mother of a 14 year old girl who has recently announced that she would like to become a vegitarian in order to do her part to help save animals. while i think this is great, i told her that i wanted her to research this and that she needed to supply her father and i with a healthy diet where she would not be lacking any of the nutrients she will need at her age. she never did this so i did it my self. i also told her that if shes doing this to save the animals, then i figureed that not only would it include her not eating meat products but that it would also include not using products tested on animals or products that have animal by-products in them so in my research, i found a list of companies that still test on animals and gave her this list yesterday and told her that along with her notion of not eating meat, she would also have to give up any of the products on this list as well. i told her to read all of the literature and then make her decision. i feel if u are going to do something like this, u dont do it half assed. even at 14. she came out to me and said that she didnt want to give these things up but that she wouldnt eat meat in order to save the animals. i told her if that was what she wanted to do, she was being a hypocrite and that it was telling people that its okay to torture the animals so she could smell nice but it wasnt ok to kill them so she could eat them. am i wrong? she feels that i am. i feel that if she is going to do this, she needs to commit herself fully. if she cant do that, then she shouldnt do it at all. my hubby says im being too hard on her. i feel trhat i am showing her a good lesson. if thats what u want to call it. i think its great that she has recognized there is a problem but do feel that if she wants to do this, she needs to be aware of what she is really doing. can you possibly give me some advice as i really dont know much about this particular subject and i would really like to have her informed as well as my self. i just think that soley giving up meat t save an animal but not being willing to give up a product tested on an animal is really being a hypocrite. any advice u can give me on this, would be greatly appreciated. i will support whatever decision she makes but i cannot support her being a hypocrite and only doing the parts that are convienent for her.thanx, selena

I think pointing out the hypocrisy in her logic is a good lesson for her to learn. Killing animals to live is far more noble than torturing them to have the latest greatest cosmetic product.

I've recently decided to become a vegetarian, not too strict, but I'll try my best, I cant take heavy meat anymore anyway because I've tried going veg for a year when I was 12, and my body got used to it. also my parents dont eat cow or pig, and a while ago (this is what helped me decide) I saw a little calf being born when me and my bf went to a farmers camping for a week:) it was so beautifull and small, but it was taken away from its mother, because we need to drink the milk. also it was a bull.. I hope the little fellow will not be used as a piece of meat for slaughter, but I fear he will, and I saw him take his very first steps. Me and my bf named him Chris, for Christ, because he was such a little miracle..
