Oh well things must be a great deal different in America than Australia. No smoking bans have been in place for dining rooms for quite a while without any affect on business. As for lowering minimum wages the hotel and restaurant business would be against it. If that was to happen in the hospitality business then it would spread into other sections of business and when the household budget gets tight, the first thing people cut out is eating out and going to the pub or licensed club. The other thing in some parts of Australia cannot find the staff for their business and often pay over and above the minimum wage. As for obesity on a per capita basis, Australia is overtaking America.Where I live there are a few fat men but the number of fat ladies is unbelievable. To be fair some of them do try to lose weight. One cleaner at work -who was not as fat as some- said one lunch time that she was trying to lose weight had spaghetti sandwiches in her packed lunch - the very thing you should not eat if you want to lose weight. Another woman in the employment office one day said she had lost 17kg. She was still way over weight! Anyone intersted in the obesity issue especially in America should check out the link below. Barbera Ehrenreich is a pretty good writer IMO. She is listed in Wikpedia. http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/lowfatcapitalism.html also have a look at : http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/banting.html http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/guidelines.html
