    I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag, country joe mcdonald

Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
    Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

    And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
    Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
    Next stop is Vietnam;
    And it's five, six, seven,
    Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
    Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

    Well, come on generals, let's move fast;
Your big chance has come at last.
Gotta go out and get those reds —
The only good commie is the one who's dead
And you know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come.

    And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
    Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
    Next stop is Vietnam;
    And it's five, six, seven,
    Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
    Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

    Huh!

Well, come on Wall Street, don't move slow,
Why man, this is war au-go-go.
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of the trade,
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Viet Cong.

    And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
    Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
    Next stop is Vietnam.
    And it's five, six, seven,
    Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
    Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Vietnam.
    Come on fathers, don't hesitate,
Send 'em off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box. And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
    Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
    Next stop is Vietnam.
    And it's five, six, seven,
    Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
    Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

"Your Flag Decal Won't Get you into Heaven Anymore"
    John Prine
I rewrite it in my head to "your yellow support the troops ribbon" these days.

There are plently of good Dylan songs. I mean he has written over 500. He's my personal fav and has been for like six years. Since you were asking about protest songs, here's a Dylan favourite: When The Ship Comes In

Oh the time will come up
    When the winds will stop
And the breeze will cease to be breathin'.
Like the stillness in the wind
    'Fore the hurricane begins,
The hour when the ship comes in.

    Oh the seas will split
    And the ship will hit
And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking.
    Then the tide will sound
    And the wind will pound
And the morning will be breaking.

    Oh the fishes will laugh
As they swim out of the path
And the seagulls they'll be smiling.
And the rocks on the sand
    Will proudly stand,
The hour that the ship comes in.

And the words that are used
For to get the ship confused
Will not be understood as they're spoken.
For the chains of the sea
Will have busted in the night
And will be buried at the bottom of the ocean.

    A song will lift
    As the mainsail shifts
And the boat drifts on to the shoreline.
    And the sun will respect
    Every face on the deck,
The hour that the ship comes in.

    Then the sands will roll
    Out a carpet of gold
For your weary toes to be a-touchin'.
    And the ship's wise men
    Will remind you once again
That the whole wide world is watchin'.

    Oh the foes will rise
With the sleep still in their eyes
And they'll jerk from their beds and think they're dreamin'.
But they'll pinch themselves and squeal
And know that it's for real,
The hour when the ship comes in.

    Then they'll raise their hands,
Sayin' we'll meet all your demands,
But we'll shout from the bow your days are numbered.
    And like Pharaoh's tribe,
They'll be drownded in the tide,
And like Goliath, they'll be conquered.

thank you. any more? i want as many options as i can have. i cant download music and im too cheap to buy too amny cds, so my "60s" cds are all the grateful dead, the beatles, the doors, jimi hendrix, and janis. im working up to getting more of a variety, but i dont have too many protest songs from the 60s. i have alot of 80's punk that has protest-like songs (or songs just bitching about the government), but not too many from the 60s

get the times they are a-changin by bob dylan. Its a really great album from 64, and defiantely his darkest most protesty album there is. Almost every song has a protest theme to it.

'bob dylan's 115th dream' is a song that bites its thumb at america... which is what protesting is. its on 'bringing it all back home'.
