The gathering needs to be made better. I think people need to change thier views on it. One thing that i have noticed over the last few years is alot of people disagree about what gatherings are and should be. Before gatherings die i ask that people drastically change the views they have about them. Just go be yourself do what you want and screw what anybody else thinks because at this point nobody really knows what the gathering is anymore, and i think going out and representing yourself and your beliefs should be the new direction. if you party then party. if you drum then drum. but stop bitchin and complaining and please stop begging for weed. damn get some money its not impossible. anyway the last few gatherings i have been to i have seen alot of familiar faces from the past few years and it seems it only a small group of old hippies hanging and a bunch of kids and younger people. The reason that gatherings are so messed up now is because the family that thinks they are running things are so stuck up that nobody gets along with them. Just go and be who you are and stop complaining.

Today I'm in the mood to have the following opinion, subject to change without notice, but strongly felt at the moment.
Why are some older rainbows acting stuck-up? What exactly is up their ass? I'll try to answer that, as a 30-something rainbow who has his issues with some aspects of some gatherings...
For a while I bought into the idea that we dont know what a gathering is and we dont know what family is and it's just a loose collection of individuals gathering for no reason whatsoever. That may be right now, but that wasnt always how it was. Gatherings were about gathering to pray for peace, to build community, to commune as brothers and sisters and sing our heart songs. The whole party if ya wanna party thing is bullshit in my opinion. The idea that Rainbow were people of a prophecy was always a sketchy one, but as it stands now, that's pure bullshit. Rainbow wont save this world, it's too busy 'just being'. Fine, just be...and fine call yourself rainbow if you want, but i am moving over to the camp that says hey, this is at least the TIME of the prophecy, no mistake, and we do happen to be a tribe of people from all different races, and we do seem to have an affinity for the earth and a love of diversity. We could very well bring about a new awareness. Or we can at least represent that during these crazy times. We could hold space for that sanity, that groundedness that doesnt involve getting all fucked up to avoid the pain, but one that is spiritual and aware as oppossed to hedonist and nihilstic.
So I still belive that everyone is my brother and sister and has a right to be rainbow and come to gatherings, but a lot of them are just fucking up the gatherings with their so-what attitude. Rainbow does mean something and has meant something for a long time and it's not just about having a good time while a good time is to be had. The definition of bliss-ninny and drainbow encompases a lot more brothers and sisters than it used to, that's what I believe.
    lovin ya family

i asked this question a while ago, what is it that the elders have that we the newer kids don't? I believe that its time for us to gather, to be one, to help the world, but i still feel like the elders know so much more than i and the energy of each of them is like a white dwarf compared to a red giant in brightness, the out glare everyone, what is it that they have that we dont?

Elders have knowledge, but the knowledge will never last if they dont' share it with others...

    Maybe that's what's lacking...communication.

i guess i iz an elder and i always see brightness and love at a gathering so much i cry . it's sad to go away , but that ain't worth crying about . of the bad shit , there's spirit and change in it . whenever spirit asks me to embrace it , damn sure i will like an artist of peace and maybe i might give it a little magic too . i think tho art is better than magic .

Right on...The rainbows COULD BE a people of prophecy, but most are disconnected from that feeling of peace, love and harmony that is required. In all fairness, I can understand the desire one has to numb themselves from the realities of this fucked up world. Drugs, alcohol...whatever...they're distractions to help you cope. This is the time...the age of action in which those distractions need to take a back seat to activism once again. In the 60's and early 70's there was a feeling of activism. Today, I feel active pacifism from almost everyone I meet. The term active pacifism is a nice way of saying you're doing a lot of bitching, but you're not doing anything about it. It's a shame that rainbow has so much frenetic energy. The harnessed power could be amazing. It could be of prophetic proportions. Let's try to reach out to younger rainbows (and to older ones who have lost their way) and stand for something once again.
What do you stand for? And what are you doing about it?
Just general questions for everyone who reads this.

Not possible to complex everything has gotten. The rainbow now and probably will forever just be a symbol of freedom and rights. it has to me at least lost all of its kindness. Come on people Rainbow gathering used to be so nice that when you arrived people were standing their greeting you with gifts and tools and other useful things. NOW they greet you alright, but they are asking for things and not givng. Trade is barely even alive. Worth while trade at least. People have been online talking about how the rainbow is gonna be fixed for years. We just have to accept that with a new generation everything is changing. some worse some better, but not like it used to be. The last gathering I went to I smoked my own weed and hung out with my few close friends. WHY? because nobody else had anything to offer. Sure they are okay company but you walk up to a fire and offer to smoke a bowl, next thing you know you went through an ounce and your the only unhappy one. Not too mention when you get back your tents been robbed. Lets not forget about the feds. I ran into alot of cops last year, and that is not rainbow. Jam concerts is where I have been going lately and intend to steer clear of ocala because I think everyone out there is going to be rounded up and thrown into concentration camps. lol. j/k anyway i know alot of you disagree with me. good for that, because it seems most rainbows disagree these days. That gathering is going to have about 10 people one of these years, then I guess people will realize

blah blah blah,,, thats why my motto is "LOVE ALL TRUST NOONE",,,ya always pack yer shit up an carry it on yer back,, ya never show a bag of weed,, only a loaded bowl etc...

Man as society spirals downwards,,ya gotta use some common sence to enjoy yourself..

quite frankly,, if you broke out with a ounce an was showin the world at a gatherin,, an then wound up smokin it all,, an then went back to your tent to see you were ransacked, pillfered an pillaged,,
well it would seem to me, you the one lettin yer bliss override your brain are the one to blame for what happenned..

an thats just the way it is..;)

Hmmm. What do I stand for? Good question. A month or so ago I might have had a ready answer, but I've shifted back into that space of complexity. My current ponderings are based on the following
    a) An economic collapse of some sort seem imminent. Perhaps we can vibe it away, but we seem too far from critical mass for that kind of magic. Likely we'll see the fall of this civilization in our lifetime, at least a huge pardigm shift
b)changing to energy efficient lightbulbs, voting for Ralph Nader, listening to Air America, buying organic, buying biodiesel, etc, aint gonna save the world. I read an interesting essay at www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net that spelled out the futility of trying to stop a runaway train such as the military industrial complex.
c)so if a collapse is coming, we wont be able to stop it
d)so then what...sure i can teach people biodiesel, and do I will continue to, but it may be worth fuck-all in a few years if things get worse
e)so i'm less concerned with telling people to be green then i am learning and passing along what i learn about surviving and staying sane in the log run if and when crazy shit happens. which is not to say im some crazy apocylips nut (id be able to spell it if i was) just that, and here's where it come full circle
    f) more important that recycling and saving the animals and the ozone, etc, is maintaining the light in this world. who knows what scenario we have waiting for us, but we can look at what is happening and see that things are changing at an everincreasing rate and depression and suicide and rug abuse and so on are on the rise because people are becoming unable to cope with the change.
What I stand for, especially as it relates to being rainbow, is staying light, maintaining a balance between worrying and going crazy trying to save or stop things, and escaping from it into drugs and fantasy...keeping level and bright and saying no matter what happens we have each other to remind ourselves who we are, that if we go into this as family, then that light will be there on the other side when something new happens, if that is indeed the case for the future.
That all dont make any sense, does it?
In a nutshell, we are holding space for how we think humanity should be. It wont save the world or stop the crash, but if there is a crash and we need to rebuild, we'll know how to do it, and we'll create the light that brings others in from the dark. ok, im going to work on this idea more, like after my first coffee...

It makes perfect sense to me. You can't stop the runaway train, but we can learn and grow and bond with our brothers and sisters and form a union of what the rainbow family originally envisioned. Teaching Bio diesel for you, organic farming and self sustained living for me, holistic healing for the next rainbow. It's a union of these gifts that will save us. We won't save ourselves by being selfish. By working for a capitalistic living and enjoying the ego driven rewards. The big house and the fancy car don't mean that much anymore. People are depressed because they feel disconnected from their fellow man. They don't realize this and they keep trying to fill the void with materialism...with objects. Theres the illusion that keeps people plugging away fruitlessly. the anticipation that someday they will have enough stuff. When will people realize that the stuff can't heal your soul. Only a true bonding with our brothers and sisters can heal our souls and thats where the pain is at...it's on a soul level. we keep trying to connect through gatherings, but get discouraged when something goes wrong. We forget peace and love and harmony. I believe you said in another post about the "time to come together is now" (if I'm wrong please forgive me) Well we need to come together now as never before. I feel the changes that you're talking about and it scares the hell out of me. This isn't something that I look forward to going through alone. I just don't know how to help bring about the king of change that is needed. If there were a way to inspire and draw others together for this common goal would you participate? and if so how much would you sacrifce for it? The problem is that nobody wants to sacrifice anything. The security of babble on. How secure is it?
I'm tired of the status Quo and I'm ready to do something about it. I've been thinking alot about the cultural difference of the 60's and 70's and today. We seem to have lost our spirit. I want to find it again. If theres anyone out there that's willing to sacrifice a little security and help affect change, please let me know.

not much sense in that. It did not happen to me by the way its just what I hear around. If you read carefully enough you might have seen that I said I went to the gathering and smoked my own weed.

I am a newly realized rainbow and I hold high hopes for the gatherings, as I know change is necessary...but I in no way, see the rainbow scene in the United States of North America as the ONLY rainbow scene.. rainbow is everything, none can be separated from it... all is one...its international if not cosmic and we all know this...
so what?... i guess this means i'll show up at the gatherings this year, i wont suck, i wont drain un-needed energy... all light, nothing but smiles.. evolved states of energy, buzzin above...
I know We can do it, I am optimistic, thats the key... You can't let it get to you... we know Everything's gonna be alright.. We know the change is soon, the shift is NOW... there are more Family around the World...if You wanna bitch about the scene, go global!... I doubt theres an A camp in South America...or heroine addicts in India.. gain a cosmic perspective, We are not stuck in these times..even if the gatherings are shit sometimes, fuck it.. start yOUR own camp, start yOUR own kitchen.. shine so bright those who are impure can't even stand it, but can only stand in awe and cry at the Creator's beauty...
I'm going to allow this body to sleep now, but
We Are One, theres no other truth...the Spirit will guide Us,
follow yOUR heart, and let yOURself shine
    Love and Light Family,
    AdAM
