Did anybody watch this. This had to be the dryest interview I have ever seen. I bet dinner with the Bushes would be a blast, a blundering illiterate & dry stuck up biotch!
Bill Maher was taking about her and he said ".........the first robot.....OOOPS I mean, first LADY." hehehe
She really seems to me like one of those women who are totally submissive to their husband and fit into the old fashioned gender role of society. Nothing profound to say either. Thereasa Hines Kerry would totally kick her ass I can't even watch her on tv.....it gets on my nerves.
It was so funny how Jay was all pumped that she was there. I want to see her on Conan or the Daily show with John Stewart. I know she would never do the Daily Show!
I am shocked, and to be honest, quite disappointed that no one has made a wisecrack about the title of this thread...
Actually Laura Bush is not even a conservative or republican..she's a Libertarian. So is Barbara Bush. The reason she seems like a robot is because she's playing a part. She may not agree with her husband on many issues(and I mean many) but she's not gonna speak out against him in public. It has more to do with respecting her partner and his opinions as president then being a battered wife. I think people are weirded out because we had 8 years to listen to Hillary Clinton never shut-up about her opinions. I always liked Laura Bush and never faulted her for her choice in husband. Maybe she likes idiotic,squinty-eyed,cowboys.Maybe she has a clout in the marriage that we don't know about or need to know about.Who Knows...who really cares. I have seen interviews with Laura prior to her husband's first election and she is a very intelligent and reserved woman. She just sees the role of first-lady to be just that. A lady who supports her husband. Bill Maher is never satisfied with anyone but himself so whatever he calls her is just silly.
I hate it anytime someone is guilty by association and that seems to be the case with Laura Bush. I'll admit, she does seem like a very reserved (read: dry) person but I don't fault her entirely for that. It's just consequence of her upbringing. I am bothered by the fact that she willingly chooses to fulfill such a stereotypical gender role, but it's her decission to make. It's not as if she has any ill-will towards anyone either (to my limited knowledge, of course). She's just... bland. So was John Kerry, Who's to say anything? I was surprised she was even a guest on Jay Leno in the first place. How does something like that come about anyway?! I do think she seems like a nice woman. It's her useless husband that I cannot tolerate in the least.
She seems to actually get issues, unlike her husband. I feel bad for her. I mean, if I, for whatever reason, was married to a President who so blatantly disregarded my opinion, hell if I'd sit back and watch. That's the Southern way though... women were (and to some extent still are) raised to support their husbands regardless of what they really think. It's sort of sad, because I would like Laura Bush so much more if she spoke up. That's one thing I loved about Teresa Heinz Kerry- she was a complete bitch, but an intelligent bitch.
