any of you know anything bout mexican made guitars, or if mexico even makes them? cause im going there in summer and my dad wants me to wait to get my acoustic till we see if they have any there, i want a good martin i doubt mexico has anything of that quality, my dads just bitchin cause everythings like half the price down there.
i play an old kay archtop. it was cheap when it was made in the 50's. it was cheap when i bought it a few months back, but it sounds nicer than most guitars ive heard. maybe you should get a job and buy youre own guitar. i missed out on the last dead tour cus i was workin 2 jobs to get my first guitar. you gotta make sacrafices if you want nice stuff.
Hmm... there was so much gate crashing on the last tour... probably didn't miss a whole lot, but, damn, I wish I was lucky enough to go once. Anyway, anything by Godin/LaSiDo is a good value... meg (moonjavaseed) just bought a new Norman today and she's cutting an album tonight, right now, I suppose.
er does anyone else find this a wierd question? i mean its just like saying 'are american guitrs good?' if you buy a guitar in mexico its probably gonna be rather similar to the guitars you buy in america, except very cheap (since lots of lower grade guitars for america are prolly made down there) but i cant see it being much differnet to a korean or thai made guitar.. and its not like asking us is gonna do anythign except affect your expectations
Canadian guitars are just as good as American and they're cheaper... not only that, but nowadays, most Larrivees are made in the US anyway. Seagull, Norman, Art & Lutherie, Simon & Patrick, Garrison, Paragon... They're great guitars that people overlook and don't know much about.
thats caus most people think about the guitar first and then look at the head of their guitar whenever they want to know what brand it is
they sound like good guitars but i kind of would like to try it out before buying one, espesially when im buyign somthign expensive and theres places that sell them around me and god forbid going to ebay after some of the stuff ive gotten from there.
Heh, I've bought and sold three martins, a telecaster, and a strat on ebay... I also go to yard sales and resell stuff and do things like that. It's not as bad as they say it is... you just have to know a lot about what you're dealing with.
listen, I don't know much about mexico's production of acoustic guitars. If your looking for a classical, strongly would say you better be one rich bastard considering a good classical guitar can go for over 10 grand. Also, martin, fuck that. Look at breedloves man. They are made in either VT or CT and they are very cheap for the quality. Only something like 2000 are made a year though. They have great tones and a small enough neck to play. They keep producing cheaper and cheaper guitars while maintaining the standards of a martin. And martin, I seriously hate that guitar now. I've seen some martins that are 2 grand and play like shit. Awful low tones on it. And for an acoustic, I think that mainly makes the guitar. Also, if looking for a cheap guitar, Japan has been bringing up it's reputation. They have really mastered it. When Fender was in Mexico, they made shit guitars and now that they are in Japan and since early 90's, they have been making some wonderful guitars but I would not suggest purchasing something from Japan, having it shipped over, and then playing it.
Fender's golden era was in the 80s in Japan... I still think Tokai had them beat from '79-'83 with the breezysound and the springsound. All that jazz. Anyway, I play a Martin and a Guild, then again, vintage... not new. As far as Breedloves go, I assume you have the Breedlove Atlas series in mind which ARE NOT made in the United States... as the US Breedloves are generally $3000 or so and up. I actually was messing around one day while bored and came up with an idea for a $10,000 custom shop model with a fretboard entirely inlaid in abalone, except for the fret markers which would be something like mytlewood, blackwood, or bloodwood. Haha. 10 people ordered it after I was talking about it on some forums. Anyway, if you're ever interested in Breedloves go to http://www.guitaradoptions.com.They also deal with Larries quite a bit. Santa Cruz... etc. They deal with a lot of boutique and high end companies. Go to Dave. He's the man.
