Not sure if this should go here, but I'd like to know how to dance like they did back in the 60's and what not. I'm sick of the dirty dancing that goes on in today's music. The 60's dances were alot more fun....
Being an old...very old...hippy, I remember dancin' back then, seems like we danced far apart from each other, lots of foot and hand movements head shaking. But then if some one was under the spell of da purple haze, then what passed for dancin' was more of a stumble and fall movement. Today old hippies that I am around use a circle dance much like our Native American friends do, and only to the beat of a drum and our voices
The dances I remember were the Mashed Potato and the Pony. did a search, found a link http://www.angelfire.com/pop2/timemachine/60smusic.html We were just kids then and liked to watch American Bandstand and Shindig and try to imitate the dancers.
Those are fun. I also found there were certain ways to dance even in the late 60's which sorta suprised me. I was used to watching all these people dance however the music moved them (whether that was from taking drugs and that affected the music to their head and the way they interpreted it to dance to or what) but that's how I dance. Just however the music moves me. Wiithout being in drugs as well. I'd rather make a fool of myself 'hippie dancing' than do the bump n' grind....
well that's the best way to dance, is just let the music move you. It's uncanny how if you just feel it, it happens. no ordained steps necessary. and it's cool how every person might feel the same music differently. vive la difference.
Does anybody know how to do the Tighten Up like in Archie Bell and the Drells? I learned a bunch of dances just now but I won't rest 'til I find out the Tighten Up....
Why dance a dance? Why not dance a LIFE? Just, let the energy go and grooooooooove with it, baby.... Mimosa, on that link page: I have that record. Like I was saying though, just feel it in your soul, and make it happen.
You don't dance to be cool or hip. You dance to express your joy. Look at the old 60s films. Nothing choreographed, no formal moves, half the dancers appear to be having seizures. Just let the music move you.
I dance to the drums in Light My Fire, but if the drumming gets too complicated to keep up with or whatever, I dance to the bass part until John gets his act together again....
i dance however...however the music moves me! and i dig freeform dancing, and i love danncing to 60s stuff. but its not like i care if people wanna bump n grind..hell, its kinda fun sometimes. evry1 can do their own thang. i can dance to any kind of music..even new music like rap/hip hop stuff. im not gonna talk bad about the way some people like 2 dance...there is no wrong or stupid way to dance and no wrong or bad music to dance too...but of course everyone has their favorites. even tho i wish more people nowadays were more inti the 60s thang, but everyone nowadays has their own thing going on ...
just dance as if you were part of the music. express yourself through the music. it's groovy. have fun!
well, in the 60's we just danced however we felt the music was leading us. It wasn't about style, it was more anti-style. We just let it wash over us and take us there. I don't dance any differently now than I did then, I just let the music move me.
I know this is a dancing thread but the link by Mimosa was great in that it gave me more information on the various water and oil mixes for light shows. We've been using computer generated moving images for our light show but they just don't have that 'original' oil and water look to them. That link helped alot.
just dance like a dumb ass.... like me I have no idea what the hell im doing when I dance, I just know it grooves with the music im listening to, IT TAKES CONTROL OF YOU!!! MAUAHAHAHA
I <33 dancing it is prob. one of my most favorite part of shows. I love it so much b/c you move how you want and for however long your dancing you don't worry about anything else you just let the music wash over you and you are lost in it.
