    Hey all,
Ok I've been playing Acoustic for about 3 years now? And like I just moved and My Guitar got smashed! God did that ever suck! So anyway I figured since I can play now I want a Nice cool looking Guitar. But I want something original looking right? I dont wanna have the same guitar everyone else has...Acoustics are bad like that hard to find anything that NOT wood looking...not that it's bad it is made of wood, but im sick of muted wimpy lookin acoustics..I want a GIRL guitar and i want it to look HOT. Yaknow? I've looked at the Daisy rock girl Guitars? they are too....kid like, but i want a pink one or something like that? but i dont wanna look like im playing a toy guitar either...Any Ideas?

Form follows function in the case of guitars. Contrary to what pop media and large record labels would have you believe music is about sound, not how you look.

Crazy/extreme shaped guitars almost always have poor balance and playability. In acoustics they also would sound like total shit. A few people like Steinburger and to a lesser extent Parker have made extremely playable guitars that look different, but they are pretty much the only exceptions.

If you want something original buy a cheap used guitar and paint it yourself (don't cop out and half-ass it with stickers, paint it yourself)

Tyler makes a reall nice uniquely finished guitar, but they're probably much more expensive then you're looking to spend.

I'd look up Clapton's "the fool" guitar, and Page's tele, (a strat, and tele respectively) for some inspiration with what can be done to the common designs.

  3. National guitars are nice, expensive but nice, they come in both masculine and feminine looks

Btw, that is a national style 3 in my siggy

Nationals are really heavy for girls to play (although they sound wonderful!) Epiphones are on the small side, easy for a smaller womyn to play. I have a 12 string Tak that isn't as huge as most 12 strings, and the sound is wonderful.

In electrics, Epis, Rickenbockers, and even Strats are nice and small enough for a small womyn to play easily. I also have a Tele, and it is heavy, but OK. My dh has a Les Paul and it is just TOO heavy for me. Same for his ES 335. WAY too big for most small womyn.

A friend of mine in the Red Dirt Rangers has a Danelectro that is of medium size. It also has a nice tone.
Tina's Guitars in Norman (Campus Corner) always had a great selection.
It isn't clear if you are seeking an acoustic or electric.
I do see candy colors in the shops here (Denver) I'm usually paying attention to the drum stuff and lighting gear, so I didn't log in brands, although the styles were Fender-based.
JAunt the pawn shops, lots of times people buy for looks alone and shed them soon, esp if a band changes "outlook" and needs a new image... and shocking pink and Chevy blue don't work.
Although another friend loves his Explorer and a Flying V, he's done loads of modifications on them and the tube amps he uses (for more on this gear, visit www.kimock.com).
I'd not reccommend a stock of either one.

duh... also look at Canadian companies, the exchange rate might be beneficial. I seriously considered a Canadian mando when I got mine.

Im looking for acustic...i play more folk songs and ska for the kids at the daycare so an acustic is less crap to set up just whip it out and play...i think im gonna end up getting a thin body 3/4. Im gonna end up painting it most likely lol but thatnks for the tips, also i was thinkin on goin with vinals? not stickers cuz they would mess the finish up. with the vinals i found a company that will make custom vinals for cheep and i can change them on a whim so i think thats a better idea for me. Thanks a Ton!

First of all, Nationals are metal bodied resonators (wtf...why would you include these if she was asking about acoustics). On top of that, they're pretty damn expensive.

Go to the performing arts forum. I can probably answer a lot of your questions there.

As for "wood" looking guitars, that's because just about every damn guitar has a spruce, cedar, or mahogany top and the fact that Martin has been around since 1833 and before that, CFM 1 was building stauffer violins in Germany, so the design has been copied millions of times over and that's why most guitars look the same. Other than that, the dreadnought has only been around for a little while, but still, Martin was first on that one and I've owned three.

If you're looking for something small, check out the Larrivee parlour guitars, Martin 000 bodied guitars, etc. because most other stuff that would fall into this genre of guitars is generally crap.

Those Luna guitars don't look too bad... I've never heard of them and I've been to NAMM shows.

Who cares what the guitar looks like anyway? I picked mine during the great blackout a few years ago, and I didn't even see what it looked like until I got it home. It's a musical instrument, not a fashion accessory.

Exactly. If you want something that "fits" a smaller body better go for a parlor guitar. I'd suggest a Martin 000-15S, super versatile and sounds great.

danelectro has some nice smaller lighter guitars that are sexy. fairly cheap too. if you want an acoustic get an archtop.
