Are they Work animals to you? Or are they companions?
Any horse I've ever ridden, has known me BETTER than I know myself.

    What's YOUR opinion?

They seem more like companions...espcecially since the invention of tractors and cars.

    Theyy seem intuitive and intelligent.

Of course I like horses, some people probably think they are bred for dog food and glue.

they can be companions that you use for work....e.g a farmer who uses his horse to get around the farm

As an horse owner myself, they are both. Kelly's in training for western trail/pleasure. She also is a great way for me to get some excersie since I gotta chase her lazy butt around the big arena to get her to stretch her legs. :)
She needs grooming, feet cleaned, mane/tail brushed and nowadays fly spray. All require me to use lots o muscles that don't normally get any work out at my job.

She is also a smart cookie who enjoys pushing my buttons, the brat.

they are companions, like ALL animals, but you can have them bring you to places (i suppose..i see nothing wrong with it, sorta, as long as you dont FORCE it to go)

    Companions.

I refuse to support things like trail rides. If I want to ride a horse then I'll have to know someone who has a horse where I am confident that the horse is well taken care of and not exploited to make money for the owner. I feel that it's one thing if someone owns a couple of horses....like this women I know owns a few horses and takes great care of them. She lets people over to ride them sometimes and if she excepted money for that I don't see it as being wrong. But I'm talking about the establishments who own so many horses and only own them to profit off of trail rides. I also feel terrible for those horses in NY who do nothing but lug people around the city in carriages all day. As well as horses used in racing. That kind of "work" I think is just wrong.

I am scared of horses. They're so big and jumpy, it frightens me to ride them.

I think horses can be USEFUL on a farrm, but many are overworked and abused.

i have a horse also, but my horse is a total companion. People at the barn are alwas telling me i should show him like jumping but i dont want to, i like to just be with him and groom him and ride him. Hes an awsome horse. and he has a funny personality. He gets me calm when im upset and i just love to go and see him anyday anytime :)

My mom owns a horse buisiness, and they're like children to her (in an animal way), so they're more companions.

I love my horse so much. He is definately my companion. I ride often, but i never push him to do things he doesnt like. I can tell from on his back if he has enthusiasm or is just frusterated. He tries hard to please me in the ring. :) I jump and stuff because im training him, but we also trail ride for fun. Somedays i just go out to graze him or something. He is my best friend.

I believe having horses do moderate workon farms, ect isnt bad. You have to take care of them though! I hate seeing horse and buggies and the horse is soooo underweight and/or lame. Just take care of the animal... they help you in so many ways.

all im saying is that horses are living and breathing too. they are beautiful creatures and need to be taken care of
