I got an idea. I feel I have an extreme obsession with something I didn't even live through, the 60s... This is my idea... Be honest and tell me if I shouldn't do it, do it differently, etc. Make flyers with a big peace sign on it, and below the peace sign have words of encouragement to visit a website maybe? www.hipforums.com . Or if I happened to stumble upon a website that was very inspiring to the ways, culture, beliefs of the 60s/hippydom (peace, love, etc). You get the point, if this is a good idea at all, please help build on this idea. I would excuse myself from class at a low traffic period (halls get quiet) and just go along posting these on the wall. (I would do this secretly because I would get into trouble for doing something like this at my school). I feel that if anything will happen again, we're gonna have to stop sitting on our asses and do it ourselves. So is my idea good, or trash? Do I need to come up with something different?
BTW if this same method appeared in more than one school, or even just out in public... Like the flyers had peace sign, with a website or other words below them, I think it would get media attention because it would be very odd if there was a sudden outburst of flyers everywhere, and being spontaneous/different/weird, it would get people interested in what is going on (especially if it was happening all the sudden in different states).
Now reading this thread I think it is REDICULOUS. Although I will not edit it, just because I want to know what other people think.
i dont think its that bad of a idea. i dont like the hipfourms part, that might attract people wanting to argue or make us mad. but some peace web site or qoute, a few diffrent ones. i dont know if it will start a revolution or any thing major, but if it can get a few kids to be peaceful all over it will have helped. or maybe some statistics of people who kill themselves because of violence or something.
ya know, that is just what i did last year. similar at least, but about many different issues. MANY different issues. vegetarianism, love, peace, tolerance, and protest.if anything, it WILL make them think. trust me on that. but most people are too lazy to go to the website, so be sure you include information in the flyer as well. we can do this if we try.
making flyers to spread peace is a wonderful idea, though i do agree that the hipforums is a bad thing to put on there. let people discover this place on their own. we don't want people in here putting us all down, do we? but don't expect the sixties to come back. a lot of things are different now and it can never be just like that again. in example, hippies aren't as shocking and disgusting, women have rights, so do blacks, vietnam is over (though iraq is on), and the cold war is over (though the wars on terrorism and drugs are using the same tactics). good luck and peace.
flyers are often just annoying the people... I think that the only way to have a "peaceful hippy world" is preading our Love and Happiness for Life... hugging our friends and makink new friends telling them our hopes and wishes... talking directly with their souls... awaking it.. not flyers or propaganda... just Love!!!
peace is like religion, you have to believe, or follow it yourself before you can start helping others. it starts with you. be friendly with your neighbors, peers, old, young, help out in your community, then maybe start a group of people that also want peace, and do more in your community, and it could possibly grow, and if you had a group of young people working for the better of the world, that would definitely get media attention, because not many young people nowadays want to help out their fellow man. like, this past school year, (i was a freshman), i just picked up trash for an hour or two outside during my lunch period, and another class period i had free, when i took it into the lunch ladies and asked them to throw it away, they smiled, and after a while, i had a group of other kids helping me (many of which i did not know!) that's how it works, a lot of time, people are willing to act, they just need a leader, and eventually, everyone will be free to act on their own.
I think this is a great idea! It will certainly make people think. I would just do an encouraging, insirational quote, or frase under the peace sign. If I saw a web site I would probably write it off as an advertisment. If you make a flyer I would put it up. Post it here so we can all print it out! peace!
i think this is a really good idea, but negative on the hipforums.com thing, i agree, people would just come and bash. But i think if we made a ton of flyers just promoting peace, vegetarianism, legalization, and all kinds of stuff, and people did it like CRAZY...and EVERYWHERE in the US, in Canada, ANYWHERE WE COULD! i Think it would get tons of attention......i have hopes taht we could really start something....the only thing that sucks is wasting all that paper. As nice as one of the previous posts sounded, about jsut hugging your friends and preaching love, that's not going to cut it.....we need something to open people's eyes about the alternative ways. A hug just aint gonna cut it, i don't think....and that's unfortunate
Let's start a festival, and have a giant on it. We'll call it the American Peace Festival, and we find rock bands who sound good, and have that kind of long haired, t-shirt & jeans look. And we'll take it on the road. All we'll need is a promoter, and a venue.
man i am SOOOOOOOOOOO down for somethign like that, but it's all a matter of finding people who are really willing to participate and help make this happen. Count me fuckin in, and i know u can count givepeaceachance in there too
The festival thing sounds nice....I'm down! But, I'm not too sure about the flyer idea...what will it help? It would be stupid and wasteful. People will tear them down and you'll be no more ahead than you were before.
the festival is a good idea. The thing is though, it is so expensive to do a festival, which makes it so expensive to go to the fest! I mean, I think it will turn a lot of people off if there is a peace fest that you have to pay a couple hundred dollars to get into. but again, I do think it is a good idea!
oh, and I do agree that people will tear the flyers down and rip them up and stuff. I just know that if I was driving down the road and saw a big peace sign with sonething good to say under it, it would sure make me think. I can say the same for just about everybody I know! It WILL make people think.
The only true way to make the festival work is to do it all ourselves. Make it a free concert, even though still charge for food, but not at extravagent prices like $10 a bottle for water. Maybe like $1 a bottle (because what good will that bring if it's a lot of money for food and water?). All everybody worries about today is the money. Honestly, I think that festivals are an excuse for 150-500 thousand like-minded people to come together and have fun. And if the flyers get torn up, so what. If they get torn down, put them back up! So it'll be more money for that. I don't care! If ever make a lot of money, I wanna use it for 2 reasons and 2 reasons only. 1. Charities, 2. Putting on a great FREE festival!
if it ever happens, please let me know about it. my band would be more than happy to participate. we're trying to start the same kind of thing in our hometown anyway.
as much as i would like to, i'll have to admit that there is no possiable way to bring back the 60's. Society is in the midst of a plummeting downward spiral into hell and hate. Life is so different. I too have been cheated by being born too late and missed the summer of love, but u know what? that is what make it so damn great. There was only 1 SUMMER OF LOVE, there was only 1 WOODSTOCK 1969, and we can't change that. but those people, actually our parents, changed america. they had such an impact, there will never be another 60's. as i almost want to cry when i hear about the world around me. But we all have to make the change. our parents did it, now it's our turn. stand up and be heard. we give a shit and we can change things. if you want to have the next best thing to the 60's we have to make it happen. it's easier to love then to hate... everything is so fucked up....."all you need is love".....
