When is the typical age to start at least trying to potty them???My son is 20months and takes his diaper off after urinating once in it and also sticks his fingers in his butt-crack after he poops and shows it to me is this a sign??? Katie
He's aware of his movements, that's a good sign! I never "trained" my babies, I took them with me to the bathroom and let them see what's up. They want to do everything we do anyway, so it won't be long before they get the idea. Put baby in undies instead of diapers and show him the way. No pressure, no rewards, no demands, just lead by example and he will want to do it himself. Be prepared to mop the floor a few times, though, he is, after all, a baby!
When we were home all day on Sunday I put Dakota in the few cloth diapers we have. As soon as he peed he would tell me he was wet. But he would not go in the potty. One time he started to go and he grabbed himself and jumped up. He's afraid of going in the potty. But at least with the cloth diapers he knows when he is wet. For several months now he has told me when he is poopy. I take that as a good sign. I just bought him some training pants on ebay that have a waterproof cover. That way my house won't suffer so much. I'm gonna use them whenever I am home with him. My second son would never poop in the potty. He would hide in a corner to do it. Usually he would find someone's shoe to go in. We got to the point where you never put a shoe on without looking inside first. Hmmmmmm, maybe that's the real reason I wear sandals now. After five kids you would think I'd have all the answers on this stuff. But it's been 22 years since I last potty trained anyone. It's amazing how much you forget. Kathi
Well thank-you ladies for the comments the shoes thing is way too funny!!!!I will keep you all posted!!!!!
