Going camping this weekend with my nephews ages 4 and 12 ( my son is at yellowstone with his ma unfortunately). Going to try to keep them busy, but not quite sure what to do. Anyone have any good ideas for things to keep them busy and keep me sane? Something kind of different would be cool. Thanx.

Kids love camping usually. They get to be dirty and no one cares. Take along some books on birds, bugs, and trees. Let the kids find the things they see in the books. That will keep them busy for hours. And just being outside makes kids tire faster. They'll want to take naps and go to bed early.

Take bikes if you can, fishing poles, and a bucket for collecting rocks. My car comes home heavier than when we left because of all the rocks we seem to collect while camping..lol Also a collection of balls and baseball gloves.

Don't forget the marshmellows, graham crackers and chocolate either.

    Have fun! :)

Both of my girls LOVE capturing bugs. You could go to any store that has camping gear and pick-up a couple of see-thru plastic bug viewing containers. Both of my girls would be entertained for a very long time searching for bugs to look at. Actually, both of my girls would even be entertained for a long time if I went to any fishing bait store a bought a couple containers of worms for them to dig into. Actually, that happens everytime I try to go fishing with them............

toy binoculars. jars for bugs. a ball & frisbee. a hammock. matchbox cars to play in the dirt. be sure and DO some of the stuff with them, like take a hike to get them to look for animal signs, use the binoculars, name some of the birds you see. Look for poison ivy - they love that, and if there happens to be some, you can be sure and give the 'saftey' lecture while making sure they stay out of it!

I've been camping with my boys since my oldest was about 6 weeks old - mostly now I don't entertain them at all, they are pretty self-entertaining!
