is it just me and everybody is too closed-minded when it comes to music? i hate it when people say all rap music is terrible or all rock music is terrible etc...i think its all a bunch bullshit and people need to leave their minds open, the only way you can say that is if you gave it a real chance and actually LISTEN to it instead to telling yourself its gonna suck b4 you even hear it. that kinda stuf really pisses me off. i used to be the kind of person that only listened to havey metal and as far as i was concerned all other music sucked, but when i actually matured a little i gave everything else a chance and found i was really missing out. does that kinda stuff bother anybody else here or am i just crazy... feel free to post your thoughts on the topic.

I won't say anything sucks or is good until I've heard it myself.

    I guess I'm cool. :H

Haha, I've been called gay for blasting The Beatles through headphones before. :p [IMG]

Ahh, ignorant sheep.. they've been raised to think that just because their beliefs go along with the mainstream, their beliefs are better than everybody else's and anybody who disagrees or does something non-mainstream is obviously a piece of shit, in their eyes. *shrugs*

Yay for run on sentences. :H

you might be crazy, but not on this.
While I get bored easily with rap cadence, I do listen to freestyle to hip hop (a difference in form) when the message is worth it to me. That's a long stretch for a folkie/ newgrass chica.
I also like some electronica such as Signal Path and some STS9.
Mostly I favor blends: raga jazz, slam grass, neofolk.
If someone is going to bash on something, they should have their anecdote (meaning they actually listened to it for a reasonable time) and some reasoning.
Taste is taste, and some folks are stuck in the herd.
What bothered me was your bro using "gay " that way.
wasn't he in the room, listening to the music? wide brush, that tar brush.

After seeing bands like Phish, The Dead, YMSB and Keller. Its hard to list to no-talent hacks. Keller Williams has kinda ruined music for me. After seeing him pull off the stuff he does. It is hard to watch four guys on stage do the same thing he can do by himself!

i used to be only a rap kinda guy, still am mostly, but if im hanging with more rockers then gangsters then i dont mind to listen to their stuff. I have learned to appreciate msot types of music because the radio stations that play rap in this town are still playing hits from last summer 5 times a day....i must have heard "lean back" (a crappy song to begin with) 1000 times.

Well.. when I say I hate rap, it's because I REALLY do and that's based on experience. There may be an occasional stray song I can handle, but verrrry rarely. The same goes for country- I've listened to it quite often around friends and through other ways (I was in 4H for years and every road trip we went on, it was all country) and I can honestly say that based on hours of experience with both genres, I can't stand them. It's not that I'm being close minded, it's that it's my preference.

I listen to everything..Mostly classic rock, jazz, fusion, ambient, indie (and obscure classic rock that no one on here has heard of), among others...though, I just can't stand the concept of goth and country, for example...To much of a label, and the music is just deepening the use of the labels within those groups which upsets me. Using labels restricts the given genre, as it sets rules for that genre. I don't put a label on myself and I don't let the music I listen to place a label on me. I'm my own person as a whole and musically, hence why I avoid the pop punk emo stuff too. Because people hear you listening to it and say shit like, "you are soo emo." plus, most of it sucks anyways.

I talk about similar things on my website, more in depth too.

i use to be the same way when i was younger.... but i think musical taste has alot to do with growing up..... after awhile you'll realize what most rappers rap about is dumb and pointless.... and it all starts to sound the exact same... dont get me wrong i still love some rap.... but my musical horizons since i was in highschool has gotten dramatically more diverse... co-workers would be like "man you got a wierd taste in music" cuz i could got from say Ying Yang Twins.... to Grateful Dead... to some Marley.... then play some Prodigy(the techno group) and then to sme prine... and end the night on Slipknot or somethin along them lines.... music is just like food...... try it before you decide wether or not you like it
