Unfortunately as many of you have prolly heard Scott Larned keyboardist, and original manager for the Dark Star Orchestra passed away Sunday the 24th from heart faliure. This is very shocking and unfortunate news for us DSO fans, and will mean them cancelling the reast of the spring tour til further notice. Im sure everyone feels as I do on this, and please send Scott your love. Peace, Chris
Strange how the keyboard players for the Dead have a history of dying off, now it happens to one of their cover bands!
i know they said they are cancelling the spring tour, so does anyone think theyll cancel the summer tour too? 10,000 lakes woulda been my first DSO show
What a loss, He will be missed. I wonder how they will continue? Heart failure at 35 makes one wonder what really happened. Maybe he had a condition, Anyone have any theories?
this is so sad! he always had a happy and peaceful look on his face when i saw him and i'm sure everyone will remember that. i was supposed to go to the show on saturday and the freaky thing is i decided that on the 24th. no one can replace him.
My best friend was suppose to go to the show on Friday nite, but it was sold out. Another friend of mine went and he said it was like "Jerry was there." It was definetely a hot show.
Damn I just saw em on the 20th. That is so sad. I send all my love and prayers to his family. And yes, I think Jerry is at every DSO show!
omg, thats awful. i was supposed to go to their show that nite (in towson, maryland) and was wondering why they cancelled. my heart goes out to the band and his family....
such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there....... you will be missed Scott Hope you're at peace with Jerry, Brent, Keith and Pigpen in the great jam in the sky
If you click on the banner in my sig it will bring up some DSO songs! They even do Kidney in a Kooler with Mr. Williams!
plese don't sit around and speculate on "reasons" for heart trouble. I had a heart attack at 19, and the docs were clueless. It's disrespectful and you probably will be wrong
He was so unique. I met him actually and he was really open and honored that I told him I love the music. He always had so much energy. Energy which turned into so much of the music. Our holy music. He was able to bring us a light which, master musician, Brent Mydland showed to the world for such a short time but created so much priceless art. As modern painters emulate the impressionists, modern spiritual artistis like Scott are honoring the unbelievable human states which every person on the planet can experience every day, which will save the earth exponentially as love spreads. Such a sweet human. Such a sweet human family. As we reflect on loss, let's remember our own mortality. Let's help all of the people who never were able to be around music which opens the soul and removes so many labels, expectations, and illusions. The more we clear them away, the sooner we can achieve perfect union with the universe. Namaste Scott. "The river roll, roll, roll."
I cried when I read this on the site. I was going to see them at 10,000 lakes. I did not get to the The Dead, or Phish.... and now the origional DSO crew will not be something I will be able to witness. Scott was so damn talented and will always be missed.
