Well yes we have been busy. Wanted to show the latest pic of the house. We still need to do alot of work, but it will be done soon. That black tar paper is coming off and it will be sided. Just put the tar paper there to keep out the rain and the critters. The front part of it is a screened in porch.

Teepi, The room looks great. I bet you are so excited. Your place is growing into such a wonderful home. I know you will enjoy making it 'just so'. Brightest Blessings sweetie.
HAHA, thanks everyone...This dream was a loooong time coming. Fractual...sweetie, you stay on the path you are finding and you WILL have what you need. I wanted to let you all know too that we added up everything we have bought and we have spent almost 5,000 dollars on the house total. The following is how we are doing it...maybe you can use some of this info if you want to build... We used alot of salvaged materials...the windows were all bought for 50 cents to 3.00 each. The doors were from free to 20 dollars. The front door that is pink in the pic (thats 2" insulation) is now all wood on the outside, Larry covered it today and I will post a pic. We did 6" walls for the added insulation value, the insulation was gotten for free except for 8 rolls. The free stuff came from a school that built a modular addition and they ordered way too much and threw rolls still in the packeges in the dumpsters. Over 1500 dollars worth all R-19. Then there was the pink styrofoam insulation...the 2" stuff thats in 4x8 shhets. Larry was hauling gravel 2 years ago at the airport and they were building something and had stacks of it in the dumpsters. We used alot of it in the ceilings. We also insulated real well under the floors. The 2x4's we used in the walls.(double walls..) we used came from the salvage yard... at 1.49 each. We also bought 5 loads of poplar and oak from a saw mill locally...we buy what is called "outs" its lumber that is still rough cut and is not perfect...like some still has a bit of bark on a side or the knot holes are too big or some reason they can't sell it to a retail store. We bought a planer and a table saw and mill it ourselves...so all our floors are oak. 1000 board feet= 120.00.Thats like a 10 ft. board of oak anywhere from 4" to 12" wide for 1.20 cents a board. Yes, the outs are not uniform in width so we had to make a jig for boards we wanted to rip to a uniform size. But we ended up making our own 8" ceiling joists and 6" floor joists...way stronger than pine...and cheaper too. We bought an auger and hand dug our own well, and Larry built a compost toilet. We have no county water or septic. So it still can be done, just may have to sacrifice certain things to gain other things. But we don't mind being 15 miles from our little town and 30 miles from the closest wal-mart. There are 9 houses on our road and thats way too many but heck, what are ya gonna do?? Thanks for the cheers, teepi Oh the only Mt shasta I know of is in CAL. but I do live near serpent mound.
Beautiful Teepi!! I'm so glad things are going well for ya'...and I appreciate the info. about how you did all of it...blessings to you!!
YAH~! ty sweetness! you just gave me a bit more motivation to try to get my beater truck up and running again. Dumpster diving time with alla the spring time flurry of building activity. I can always use some inspiration and motivation. It's hard to stay motivated sometimes when yah don't have anyone to help or share it with.
Looks great! I adore porches, best at-home place for chilling out. Light some candles, watch the sun go down....magic.

I'd love a house like yours teepi
AHHH Sweetie, Of course you can build a treehouse. Your mom just doesn't know it yet. OR for something larger click the link below. There are also books on building your own treehouse, check your library....keep your dream alive. You can start now by learning some basic carpentry. http://community.webshots.com/photo/11254994/11255014bCViGrwpAE Never give up, teepi
this chick lived in a tree for like a year in an effort to preserve ancient forests in california, proved to be pretty successfull too, really cool chick.. http://www.circleoflife.org/
awe thanks! thats sooo awesome! When my brothers were younger we built alot of treehouses! and I can do the carpentry thing minus like some of the math crap lol.. thats what my pappy is for lol... but thanks soo much for the links!!!
Man, you make me wanna cry.. I grew up watching these kinds of houses being built. Too bad I don't live in Ohio. I really am good with my hands and my grandfather taught me how to do this type of stuff. He was a carpenter and taught me how to build a house. He built his by his own. I really enjoy that type of work. Also.. I think your house looks like every house I've ever wanted to build in the woods. Man, I really enjoy that type of work. Too bad I can't help ya, I'd be glad to do it for free.
Also, the wood choice ain't bad. I love to go wood shopping at lumber yards.. You can always find cheap wood that was cut wrong or messed up some way or another. Plus a lot of lumber yards throw away a lot of wood that doesn't have the 'correct' type of grain on it. Where the grain isn't up to grade with some rich feller. You can ALWAYS find a deal at a lumber yard. Makes you feel that we waste a lot of trees.. but that's the way a carpenter is.. can't subdue himself to a bad piece of lumber.
