I think I've come to the point in my life that I need to make a serious chioce. So far, I've been humping the American dream...I'm in college, I work part-time....and I just don't see myself being happy. I've become "enlightened" so to speak, and I need to find a place that I can get away from it all, and develop my spirituality. I can't take anymore of this civilized filth. I want to live off of the land, like my ancestors, maybe somewhere in a forest. I don't care where though, I just want to be free.
I can totally relate, you can't find happiness serving yourself, and that's about all the American Dream lets you do. If you ever find somewhere or want to get something started I'm in.
I would love to start right now, but I have to at least wait until October, because that's when my lease expires for my apartment. After that, I'm gone. A friend and I are thinking about buying a house, so if you want to, you can join us.
sad how these threads always start out so optimistic and upbeat, then suddenly die off. Even sadder because of how ripe our times are for a true counter-cultural movement to develop. Either way it already is.
I understand how all of you feel, and I share your pain and longing for something new. Which is why I have begun something that I will not stop, no matter who is or isn't with me. Luckily, more are with me than not, the more the merrier. We'll need as many as possible for the best survival in the wild, although it is possible to have too many. (we wouldn't want to be like locusts) I will continue the movement, I feel that it is one of my purposes in this life, so as long as I have breath in this body, I will not cease. We're in the process of learning new things still and coming up with lists of supplies and necessities that we'll need. We hope to start making the move in large numbers between the years 2007-2010. I have a vision of a place where we, as a people, can learn and advance our minds without prejudice. A place where one can learn without bias or fear of feeling different. Where being 'different' and unique is a GOOD thing and is encouraged. Diversity is the spice of life and should live on. No sexism, no racism, no guns, no violence(or as close to none as we can), and we should discourage greed. We need to teach people to respect and cherish what they HAVE, and not pine over things they DON'T. We must teach caring, compassion, and respect. It *will* be wonderful and we WILL succeed, despite the odds. We have to. Our history, as humans, has reached a climax. We are at a point where we must make a choice because 2 paths are about to diverge. There will be the path of the industry, they will continue to "advance" their "technology" until they are wiped out by natural distasters, disease and themselves. If you tear up the roots beneath your feet, the rain will surely wash the ground out from beneath you. It is only a matter of 'time'. Then there will be the path of nature, the ones who swear to protect and uphold the dignities of the land. They will be the ones who carry on and survive through the upcoming tribulations. We cannot neglect our spirits and expect to live healthy/happy lives, we're dying slowly. You'll probably begin noticing more and more "genetic" diseases popping up in the years to come, they will increase until it becomes almost an epidemic. Doctors will not understand it, people will become panicked and not understand what is going on, much like autism, alzheimers and cancer. It has already been going on for years, but it's the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.
