It is the time of year for me to hit the road in my old yellow school bus
and have a grand adventure, kinda like a walk about. Every year I find
new and exciting young people that want to become the New Hippies
    of the world.

Last year I pulled my bus into a truck stop in the mid-west and parked
beside two other school busses. The busses were taking some band
students on a trip and they had stopped for the night, eat at the truck
stop and stay at a motel just across the parking lot.

After a short time several of the young people came by my bus, and
after they discovered that this old hippie was living in the bus they started
asking what it was like, being on the road. They wanted to hear
the stories from 40 years ago because they all knew what being a hippie
was all about, they had studied it in history class!!?

Around mid-nite I got out my drum, and one of the students got a drum from
their bus and we had a regular happening...we beat the drums and danced
far into the night. We made so much magic that the local fuzz came by
to see what was going on, but that was cool 'cause he was an old head
    himself.

We broke up the circle around 5AM, they gave me some of their snack
foods, got on their bus and headed for parts unknown....several of
them will most certainly become a member of the New Hippies....right on
and now we have some new folks to keep the faith

I so wish I could've been there, me and a bunch of friends are taking off this summer in a bus, or something of the sort, we've saved up money and planned out a lil bit of a route but we're just going where our hearts take us..

    That is so totally awesome.

I'm hoping that this rising new generation of hippies of which I am proud to be a part of will in the future do the same...

Thanks all, I spend most of my Summer months in the bus going all over the
country spreading the word. I have helped a great number of young hippie
converts be able to survive on the road, just as I do on great road adventures
    now and in the past.

How does one get a free meal on the road, what to or what not to eat out
of a dumpster, and when is the best time to dumpster dive for food. Where
are the free kitchens? How to get free clothing, even free gas for the bus,
where are all the Happenings taking place...

and just what was Diggers Free Store and are they still around?

What mushrooms are good for you and which will kill you...and
why you should stay out of the South and Texas in partucular even
    during these enlightened days....

So much to teach, from my old yellow school bus, and to my great
delight, so many young hippie converts to teach...for me its 1969 all over
again...keep on truckin'...remember they ain't scared of us, just what
we repersent..and thats freedom...and that makes them dangerious

I was about to ask you if you could swing by Dallas, Texas (it's pretty safe here for hippies).
But, I see you're morally opposed to here. :(

Dallas Texas is OK now, but back in the 60's, and even today in
some parts of the outback areas....I have some brothers and sisters
burried in shallow graves in Texas and other parts of the south
, put there by everyday citizens, by the
fuzz, or the Klan...just because they had longer hair than most,
that was a time of regular joe citizen having flat top or crew cut
hair styles....or because they had on clothes that were not the
norm for the area....or because they were scared of us man...just
because they were scared of us. Here is a dialog from back then
and it is as true today as it was back then. Three hippie types
on motorcycles stoped along side the road for a nights rest...

    >They're Scared man

THEY'RE NOT SCARED OF YOU, THEY'RE SCARED OF WHAT YOU REPRESENT TO'EM

    >Hey man all we repersent to them is somebody who needs a hair cut

WHAT YOU REPRESENT TO THEM IS FREEDOM

    >Whats wrong with freedom, thats what its all about

THATS RIGHT, THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT BUT TALKING ABOUT IT AND BEING IT...THATS TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. ITS REAL HARD TO BE FREE WHEN YOU ARE BOUGHT AND SOLD IN THE MARKET PLACE 'CAUSE DON'T EVER TELL ANYBODY THAT THEY ARE NOT FREE...'CAUSE THEY ARE GONNA GET REAL BUSY KILLING AND MAIMING TO PROVE TO YOU THAT THEY ARE. OH YEAH THEY GONNA TALK TO YOU AND TALK TO YOU AND TALK TO YOU ABOUT INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM, BUT THEY SEE A FREE INDIVIDUAL ITS GONNA SCARE'EM

    >Well it don't mak'em runnin' Scared

    NO IT MAKES'EM DANGEROUS

And that dangerous still lives on today, look different, talk different, be a
non conformist, think different, be free, it still scares'em real bad, bad
enough to get a free hippie a shallow grave in the desert

    I dig it man.
It can be a VERY dangerous place in the south...
But, Dallas has mellowed out a lot, man.
    Lot's of non-conformists and protesters.
If you ever have a chance, come check out the city, but don't travel any farther south or west.
    East is ok.
If you ever get out this area, contact me, mate.

happy, i get a good vibe from you man you know what your talking about and you sound genuine. im in san antonio and i wouldnt mind meeting you either...maybe the south is were we need to focus man because yeah that fear still exists in them. what the fuck would bush think if hippies started coming out of texas instead of greedy, lieing politicians...the south can be cool, as much as it is mis-respresented in politics today, the youth here is on the right track. austin is even more of a hippie town...let us know where u do plan on venturing in your bus, i know i have much more to learn and you can definatley help me spread the feeling down here. peace bro
