how about your local SPCAs and animal shelters? They are the ones that are directly and physically helping animals. The physically remove animals from abusive homes, they provide medical care(very expensive, specially the surgeries),food, community education, most SPCAs also keep animals that are adoptable until they find homes(rather then automatic weekly put-downs) and the new prospective adopters are background-checked.

It's amazing how many websites I saw listed here that are for silly things like vegan petfood and vegan support-groups.

You might as well donate to PeTA...it's the same thing...not really directly helping animals.

If you watch those shows like Animal Cops and Animal Precinct..it takes tons of donor dollars for the cops to be out there and those clinics to run. They need your support more then some website corporation that makes veggie faux-fish treats for cats.

MaxFund is a No Kill. I just gave a car to Denver Dumb Friends League and I volunteer with the closest shelter. I do support the local shelters and sanctuaries, on a rotating basis monitarily.

Otter, you have been really grumpy lately. pm me if you need to chat, but this IS the veggie forum. It isn't so silly for veg*ans to have fave links and attitude support for veg*an causes.

While it's important to cut the branches of animal abuse, it is equally important to hack away at the root of cruelty. We can't earnestly expect the endless parade of abandoned, neglected, and abused animals to be reduced unless we also challenge the view of animals as unfeeling objects that can be easily replaced.

PETA smashes them for being less radical regularly, but the WWF is a good organization.

Regardless of PETA's stance, those who frequent this board should be advised about some information regarding the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). This organization supports the annual slaughter of Canadian harp seals, as well as various trophy-hunting ventures. Like several other large 'conservation' groups, WWF subscribes to the idea of animals as resources for human use, and does not have a problem with the slaughter of wildlife as long as the population levels are not seriously affected.

The moral of the story is that animal advocates should make sure organizations are standing up for what they want before contributing.

The Way I look at PETA is the way i look at every other special interest group, they sometimes do good stuff, but most of the time it's biased, ridiculous stuff that they do. I support the 2nd Amendment but i think 90% of what the NRA does is such crap, that is the same way I feel about Peta, That 10% of the good stuff they do is really worth them being in existence though....

    Peace and Love,
    Dan

THis isn't about PETA, except that we have SO many good/evil threads. I thought I'd get some chatter going about other groups. Veggie doesn't live on Newkirk alone.

I really stand behind Rocky Mountain Animal Defense for their research and advocacy of prairie dogs.

While not dedicated solely to vegetarianism, a site I really like is www.care2.com
They have a "click to donate" section, petitions, social networks... and like the "click to donate" program, every time you use their email or ecards causes are supported. I strongly reccomend checking it out... if you join, my name there is Samantha Moontime... feel free to add me as a friend!
