I'm going to be spending my christmas and new years in Australia. I want to do so much when I'm down there, I have tons of family in Aussie but this would be my first time visiting. I was wondering if anyone can give me some 'must see, things to do' list. I want to swim with sharks! thats definetly something I want to do, and I also want to see some of the aborignal culture, and the cave art. OooO and I want to see a Australian Rugby game any suggestions for teams to watch? Thanks!

    Peace & Love

I guess it depends where you're going while here. Each state has different things to offer and some of the best things to see or do are in places very far away from the major cities. You've chosen a bad time to come - the southern states are all heading towards winter.

    Weary or wary? :)

I don't know - there's be no real summer in Melbourne this year and already the moccasins are coming out for the morning trip to the bathroom...

what you can do is try to stay away from the koala (i not sure how to spell it) bears, I heard some where they all have syphillis now.

    things to do in Australia:

    Go to Nimbin!
    See John Butler play
Visit Old Growth Forest while it's still there
Never come to the blue mtns
and get lost in a rainforest somewhere...

Seriously, it's fun to get lost! Just bring a friend with you who knows the way back (you can tell I've done this before can't you? :) )

No, those are only the Koalas who live near a place called 'Kings Cross'.

I think you're confusing them with 'drop bears' who live in most of the forests: they are of similar size but with much bigger claws and, if scared, attack by dropping onto people's heads. They are really dangerous as many have syphillis and herpes, not to mention crabs.

I just might be, I'm obviously going to be in a cage, but I think it would be a rush like no other! Conquering a primal fear just seems so cool.

Well it'll be alright because I havent seen my moms side of the family in years, and spending christmas and new years with them is going to be great. They are in Melbourne by the way. But, I've decided to rent a car and see Aussie with my cousin.

Thanks for the tips gypzy, I'll definetly get lost in a rain forest just for you, hopefully my cousin know the way back!

    Thanks Bedlam,

    When to Go

Any time is a good time to be in Australia. Summer (December to February) can get uncomfortably hot but it's great beach weather. Up north, the summer wet season is very, very humid and the sea is swarming with box jellyfish. Winter (June to August) offers skiing in NSW and Victoria. In spring and autumn the weather is mild.

So isn't the time I'm going, a good time?

World heritage listed Kakadu National Park is the gateway to Arnhemland. Kakadu National Park covers almost 20,000 square kms, is an Australian icon and is only 250 kms east of Darwin the capital city of the Northern Territory.

some of our major cities aquariums will let you dive with sharks for a fee ...... but most of our waterways will afford you a much cheaper alternative ;)

If your in Melbourne, go up the coast (seeing as it will be summer) And go swimming. And maybe check out some of the mountains in the great dividing range.

In exmouth (I think .... maybe it's Coral Bay) .... you can swim with the whale sharks. They are pretty harmless. It's a huge tourist attraction. It's in Western Australia.
