Heya all I made this hemp necklace for jaycees little sister for her birthday. I used a shell i found on the beach here in brighton and as ive NEVER EVER made a little net or anything to attatch something liek a stone to a necklace in macrame i made it up as i went along... but i quite like how it turned out. Hope you like it.
i really like it, i have some soap that has a pretty agate stone it it. once i use all the soap i want to try something like that to make the stone into a necklace =) any hints or tips????????????
Yea make sure you have a LOT of hemp.. also either start it as two seperate necklaces (begining at the link ends there you would tie it up and going down towards where the pendant will be joining the two seperate pieces when you get to the bottom to make the net. OR do as i did, start at the net and work up spliting into 2 strips once you finish the net. Also make sure you have at least 6 threads going over the stone because i did 4 to star with and it was just falling out of the holes, 6 gives smaller and more holes.. works nicer
That's awesome!!!! I'm gonna have to try the net idea! Now I know what to do with the gazillion seashells I have from the beach! lol
oooooo, so pretty! good idea, it doesnt look that hard to do. i collect such pretty rocks on mountains, im sure the concept will work just the same love and light
Yea with rocks its the same idea. I'm looking to get a peddlers licence so i might make a load with stones with holes through them and shells in
that is so cute! my hunny and i make hemp necklaces out of cool shaped broken snail shells, beach stones, and sea glass...they always make the prettiest necklaces...no two are ever the same. i'd love to see more of your creations!
fleassy rocks! thats really cool, you should make yourself a pretty little necklace with a purple crystal wrapped in it!!
Hehe yea i might just do that,it takes a lot of hemp. these are some instructions i sent to someone on how to do hte net.. but its not oto clear :S "As for the net i begun by getting all of my string folding it in half and knotting it (thats the knott at the bottom of the net) then safety pinned the knott to something and i take two threads that are next to each other and knott them together, and (say you have six threads) do it so you end up with three pairs with knots a few millimeters down from the big knot. Then take one thread from one pair, and a thread from a pair next to it and tie them in a knott a few millemiters down again from the first ring of knotts, and go around so you end up with a new row of three knotts. continue this untill its long enough (making sure that you go along that you are leaving enough space between each row of knotts that you can fit your shell in... the diamonds the knotts make should stretch according to the shell) then once the net is big enough to fit your shell in tie all the threads together at the top of the net. I then with the remaining loose ends of the hemp split them in half and created the two strands of the necklace so as the net hang at the bottom. Its possible to do it backwards and begin with the two strands of necklace and join then at the net too."
I'm the one you sent the instructions to, Fleassy. Thanks a lot! It made sense to me, and I am going to try it once I begin macrame.
Blah! I keep looking at this and forgetting to comment. I love the necklace--especially the little shell bit. It definately adds interest to it. Good job.
that is a lovely necklace! i bet jc's sister loved it! where did you learn to do macrame? i'd love to have a go at that. did you get any instructions of the net? peace and love stardust xxx
Yea the two basic knotts i learnt online and the net bit i made up. If you want i could teach you sometime but its probably just as easy to look on google for instructions
