our friend bill henry has just bought 150 acres with a 4 bedroom house in wassaic,ny where he would like to develop a cooperative community project. he is also looking into purchasing another 36 acres with 4 barns across the road. he is looking for creative, cooperative people with initiative and a good work ethic to help turn these community potentials into realities. wassaic is a rural area but is at the end of a commuter rail from nyc. it is about an hour from new paltz,ny, and hartford and new haven,ct and about 3 hours from providence,ri. bill has been involved with the community living movement since the 60s. he also owns over 50 acres near madison,wi where he would also like to develop a community. bill is not currently internet connected but you can contact him at 518 398 1337. this project is being developed in coordination with newworldrising and you can follow the progress of this and other community developments on our newworldrisingforum on yahoogroups. peace nwrfred

this project is getting going. friends have cleared out the 10 room old farm house and are getting it ready for occupancy. the 1st new person, sara, is heading down from maine today to further help get it rolling. sara would also like to start a community project in central maine later in the year after she has helped get wassaic going. give bill a call if your interested in helping establish a new community in southeastern ny state. peace nwrfred

well if you guys are interested you have to call bill to talk. he's not on the internet at this time. but he is definitely looking for motivated people to help build this community project. he also owns other land in the same area with multiple buildings on it. and he owns over 50 acres near madison.wi. he's an older guy and needs some younger people to help really make things happen. so give him a call at 518 398 1337. peace nwrfred ps. i'm based in rhode island which is about 3 hours from there. here we are rehabbing houses for sale to help finance community building projects like bill's around the country. we are also buying a bakery in providence tomorrow that will be developed into an awareness center. so we are more of a city based project here. but will be connected with country projects like there. you can see more about other ideas our network is working with at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/newworldrisingforum/. peace

The # here is 8458327100; we are interested in folks who would like to help develop a community on this property! You are welcome to stop by for a couple of days to check it out and exchange ideas and suggestions. There is plenty of room for camping, just give 24 hrs notice. We have 2 bedrooms to fill in the house for folks who want to commit to the project and share the utilities and expenses within the household. We do not have any kids here and no shared parenting within the house, but families are welcome. Hope to hear from someone soon....email saraboutaugh@yahoo.com.
    Peace

So far I am still the only one here on a regular basis. We really need some folks who want to help out and make this a community. We are on 150 acres of thick woods and Bill would like to build a road and start making trails so that people who want to build shelters can get to them easily. He is also going to purchase a well drill. There is a spring already here, but he wants to build several wells. Bill also is open to having folks who build shelters here plant gardens for themselves and he has a rototiller. The winter will be long and cold and we need help installing woodstoves and chopping wood for the winter. There is still plenty of room in the house!! Bill is 73 and he goes nonstop. We need some youngns to help w/ the general maintenance! Contact him to make arrangements, contact me if you want to check us out for a couple of days...
Eventually I want to buy some land in Maine but that is going to take funding I do not have personally at this time. Take care everyone, hope 2 hear from you soon...

Ok, at this point we are waiting for 1 guy to check us out, and a family of 4. Nothing is written in stone. We are really just starting to get some projects off the ground with general maintenance of the house, electrical work, roofing, etc. and cleaning up what the former owners left behind.
When we really start the big stuff, we could use some help just with the projects for a weekend if anyone is interested in helping for a couple of days. I will continue to post projects and developments; Anyone helping for a couple days will be well fed! We are still struggling with the mortgage and other finances like feeding the cats and chickens, so donations of cat food would be nice, and chicken feed, lol, but we have lots of eggs piling up and anyone helping out is welcome to take as many eggs as they want, lol!! peace to all

If anyone is still interested in checking us out, please go to the Classifeid section, under help wanted, and read the post for WASSAIC/PINEPLAINS. We are pretty full as far as living permanently, but we like guests, especially if they have skills they are willing to donate for a few hours when they're here...;)!! I will continue to update projects and living situations as they occur. Thanks!!

As of today there are 2 of us who are staying on. There is a woman here with 2 children who is leaving August 3. I have to stress the fact we don't have shared parenting. I don't have or want children, to be honest, but we don't mind them around as long as they are being supervised. I also have experience tutoring, which i could handle with older children on a pre set scheduled time. we also have to stress the issue of this being stress free and quiet for all involved.
The projects we need help with are installing wood stoves (we have 4), roofing (which we have all the material for and with 4-5 ppl would be a 2 day job), some electrical work, mostly running wires, and clearing dead trees and brush (which will be a big project, but w/ a few xtra hands could do it in under a week.).
We can always use donations of time and financial investors (in which u will get a promissary note that will be notarized). We really want to avoid the monthly rent thing.
We had a guy come check our place out who we felt wouldn't work out. There were a few inconsiderations on his part, so we took a vote, and blessed him on his way, so we have to stress the 2-3 day thing so u can decide, and we can decide, also, but also discuss the project in detail. We are getting the 36 acres across the road w/in a week, so more room for farming. We will be donating a lot of the produce to a soup kitchen (next season), and freeze a lot for the winter for household consumption. There has been talk of commercial farming, but we really can't decide that until next year, and when more folks are here to lend a hand with planting and weeding. (speaking of which, lol, any clones avilable???). Also, plenty of room to build shelters here and have ur own garden!!
So, anyone interested, # is 8458327100. Thanks, peace to all!!

I puff tuff, discretion preferred, but age is 18 and no children; woman w/ kids lvg beg Aug; stress free, stay for 2-3 days and c how u like it; after aug, 2 rms available, no shared parenting, if u have kids, u can build ur own shelter on the back 150. Respect the property and clean up after urself, help w/ utilities, investors preferred, and quiet is essential; no dnpayment, just have to pull ur weight w/ gardening and upkeep, and be considerate of other ppl here and physically and mental input is a must. no wasting water, food or electricity!

Ok, the latest is that as of now, I am still currently the ONLY person paying utilities, and there is another miserable human here. The owner has his own difficulties w/ the mortgage, and no one seems interested in staying here w/ us, so I am trying to find a new situation, I had hopes of getting a car on the road this month and start work w/ in 2 wks, but the electric company has other ideas, and I seriously cannot support an entire house that has many problems which is causing the electric to be so high, but rent free is nice, however I would not pay rent here had I come into it that way, WAY too many problems w/ the place, and stress on top of it. Thank you for asking!! This really is a cool place, and a nice area, but I simply cannot afford this on my own. Again, its 5 bedrooms, and 10 rooms total, if anyone is at all interested still at this point, I will stay if even ONE person can help out!!
    Keep on truckin'
