syntax, I chipped in on an arbor day promo a radio station was part of for a few reasons: one, I support what this particular station does in its playlist, involvement in local issues and local music and the $$ was going to reforest the Hayman burn area, which scorched the soil so far in 2002 that just now is it feasible to plant trees.
the band is forest green, and lots of people ask about it. I can tell them a quick run down and hook them up with KQMT, Arbor day foundation and the reforestation project.
I do think the armload is tacky, but if that's the only way to get some kid to fok over a donation ($2 for a 30 cent band) is it ALL bad?

I keep having these weird visions of save the punctuation and having " ITS" and "IT'S" around the band.

It's not ALL bad. I suppose it's better than not donating at all. But instead of a "Let's all buy charity bands" thread, I'd rather see a "Let's donate to <insert organization name here>" thread. If the only thing that'll get these kids to donate their wee little $2 (seriously, $2 is barely a donation. I barely have any money and I don't like saying how much I give but I put more than that in various charity boxes every day) is buying this band, then fine, let them do it. But I think most people on this site are bigger than this.

well, syntax we are more evolved than some (ducks)
If a 13 y-o can give $2 and I get, say seven i think it was (bought 'em out to give away to more talkative people) on a bad money week, that isn't bad, and it gets a pattern of donation set up.
the downside is it stes up a pattern of buy to do good. Since the bands are a fashion, and kids will buy them anyway, I'd rather see some $$ go to charities

This is in reply to "dumminmama" too but could get both of your quotes on my reply of course. Although I can detect a 'small' amount of support, very small, in your posts I do just have to say.....

Whoooa, just hold on a minintue there!!!

    1) No, you are quite right $2 is NOT a lot but is it not better a great number of people give that than a much smaller perportion of people give prehaps a bit more???

2)I think these wrist bands are bloody ugly frankly! So I do most certainly do not wear one out of style or fashion!! I'm not 13yrs old!! But I will wear one anyhow so long as it gets the message across (and evidence would show that in my part of the world it DOES...)

    3) How in the hell would you know how much I have given??? £1 (as it is here in the UK) is only a SUGGESTION amount. I have indeed given that so many times over!! I also give regular monthly direct debit donations to a couple of other charities too, thank you very much!! So PLEEEEASE don't go off on the "we are all so much bigger than this" route!! What?? Because in ADDITION to my REGULAR donations to my favourate charities, "F.S.I.D" (that is for the research and prevention of sudden infant death syndrome. A.k.a 'cot death') "MacMillan Nurses" "Breast Cancer Research" "N.S.P.C.C" as well as giving a donation over the internet to "Make Poverty History" campain I also choose to buy and wear one of these white bands to get people to wonder about it and ask about so hence end up talking about the charity, what, does that make me 'less evolved than you???' Who in the hell are you to even suggest that about people you don't know??????

Stasia, 100% correct on all points. And look what you've done, three pages now you little pot-stirrer you lol I think it's awesome that EVERYONE on this thread is, in one way or another, dedicated to charities. But like I said, I think the bracelets are an awesome idea - every idea needs a medium.

Wow, that is amazing! I've never had that much comment on *anything* -not on my bare feet (most days I get a comment from someone, but rarely two, even when it's snowing or freezing), on the bells I've worn in my hair, or on anything like my tshirts, lapel pins or caps. Are people so much more likely to say something where you live? I find it hard to imagine anyone here would even notice or care, after about the first week of the first color.

Well the only difference I personally know about that I can therefore comment about is the North - South divide of England, since I have lived at both ends of the country.

When I lived in the South East of England (Canterbury, Kent) you NEVER got/get quite the same as you do up here in the North West of England (Manchester) in as much as people up here just strangers on the street talking to you as though they have known you all your life! Although my first love will always be my home town city of Canterbury, up here people are generally a bit friendlier at first, they are a whole LOT less 'keeping themselves to themselves' Up here complete strangers will burst into conversation with you really quite out of the blue.

For example, sitting waiting for a bus or a train, someone comes to sit also. It all seems to start with either the weather or the lateness of the bus or train, next thing you know they are telling you all about their ingrowning toe nail or something equally mad and kind of personal to tell a stranger!!

Also I not so long ago bought a toy that fits across the front of my Baby Son's pushchair (like a little car it had a stearing wheel, a key to turn, a lever you can push up or pull down, etc, etc.....) and I had tonnes of people in the street, totally strangers, stopping me in my tracks to ask where I had got if from, what does it do, how much did it cost, etc, etc, etc.....

So, I guess in answer to you question, people in this area definately ARE much more likely to approch you and ask whatever it is they have noticed about you that they want to know what it is all about. Kind of nosey really!! Lol! But in reguards to the white wrist band, I of course, can let them off as that IS a positive thing in my book.

Stasia, in response to your previous reply, none of what I was saying was about you. I believe I stated it in a previous post. Even by the fact that you had the initiative to start this thread, I understand that you are involved in charity far more than just buying and wearing this band. The problem is with other people, who use this band in order to feel good about themselves and believe they have made a difference. Wearing this band is not making a difference. Not a big one. If you are involved in further activities and are only wearing this band as advertisement for your cause, there is no problem with that.

    Note the original post:

Just do one thing today? Clearly you are doing more than one thing, but this is getting the wrong message across. The band may be a nice advertisement, but if the person wearing it is not significantly involved in the campaign, it's nothing.

Once again, I am sorry if I have offended you personally. I have much respect for you and your feelings for this cause.

Ok. I DO see your point. I hope nor did I offend you. We cool? I hope so. ;)

(I actually see your point to the extend that I am going to alter my original post at the begining of this thread. Hopefully people might understand me better then and, who knows, may be more inclined to do more for this cause than spend £1 ($2, is it? I'm not very good at conversion!! Lol!!) on a wrist band. We can hope can't we? :H)

P.s. I did also post a thread advising people of an up coming pollitically ralley in support of the "Make Poverty History" campain (that's taking place in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK in July this year) when leaders of the richest countries in the world gather there for the G8 summit too, where we will be demanding three key things from our government and world leaders, we will be demanding that the debt be dropped, more and better aid for some of the worlds poorest people and trade justice. So it has not been all about the wrist bands. Well, not for me at least, hopefully not for others either. Just wanted you to know that)
