greed eventualy destroys power with no ecceptions. and people of power must all first scare, brainwash, cencor people into obeying. our own government has been succecfull in doing this to us. now the last step in the cycle is for people to realize whats happening and revolt and for some new group or dictator to rise from our governments ashes. it will happen, the question is will we be around to see it?
No offense, my friend, but I disagree that the revolt will happen. Unfortunately, (and I wish I didn't think this but...) I think that the society always will eventually submit under the power of its current ruler; sooner or later, the brainwashing that the current power-holder perpetuates catches up with all of the members of the society, turning them into what they may have hated at one time. For example, my father used to be a liberal back when he was in his 20s. The Old Man is anything but nowadays, his standards are much more like that of the current government back when he was a young rebellious man. As the society gets more and more violent as the generations age, they mourn the passing of the more peaceful days, and think that instating the overbearing rules of the day will help return that peace... Forgetting that there was never peace to begin with. They give up the hope of personal liberties for peace. I totally agree that exactly what this government needs is an entire "personality overhaul," but if the people that keep getting into office are either like my Old Man or on someone like my Old Man's payroll, you can bet that nothing is ever going to change. But I really hope that I'm wrong!
i say it will happen because the over the many civilizations and cultures in history, the song remains the same. but then again look at christianity, they mannaged to thrive off peoples problems by telling them some possibly imaginary guy will solve them for centurys none stop.(im not saying god is bad iim saying christianity portrays him to their advantage. and who knows, our great religion may someday lead us into another dark age where once again everyone will turn to religion rather than literature and metal production.
what? you think hippies turned mean because they thought it would create the same thing? sorry but thats ludicris i think people jsut give into things and ways of thinkning after a while. i think the media perhaps is one of the worst things in the world atm. ie, easy media. television, movies, advertisements, contemporary commercial music. the industry now is so differnet from how it once was. the culture is. peace and harmony is not a naturally occuring thing, unless it is the result of some destruction somewhere. and so i think it will be the same with human culture. unless peace brings fast, apparent rewards, it wont suceed. peace brings reward to those who lack in power and is a loss to those who are in power. so you either need to make the benefits relative to the power of the subject and not the apparent value or number of the subject. ie, if over half the population gained from peace, then it still wouldnt work, because more than half the population has less power than the other portion. you know?
yer and so the only way is to change the way people think i think this stems down to the human understanding of what we as humans are and that is a goal of mine, to finally understand this and spread it. (it hasnt been understood so far, if you think it has then your actually just thinkning of a philosophical interpretation of what we as humans actually are). this needs to be paved through both science and philosophy but i think religion is the main block of peace, ironically.
I agree with you (for once ). Greed/power will always undermine any efforts for peace. For the population to be at peace, that means that every member of the society would have to work towards having a peaceful spirit that isn't bound by those chains of greed and power. A peaceful spirit takes a lot of work: You must feed it with the proper materials, so it grows. You must meditate to exercise it, so it becomes strong. Most people aren't willing to put that kind of work into themselves. Because the seed to cultivate a peaceful society exists within each of us. Only some choose to nurture it.
I'm talking about my old man's situation. He wasn't really a full blown hippie. And yes, this was his reasoning for changing, as well as many of his friends. I wish they didn't feel this way... I'm only sharing what he and his "old man" friends have revealed to me over the years. (My sorry attempt to understand what happens to old liberals when they become conservatives... ) I didn't say this happened to ALL hippies. To say that they gave in to "things and ways of thinking after a while" basically says the same thing I just said. I just gave a reason as to why some of them were succeptable to the brainwashing of their generation that changed their minds. Of course, there's always room to agree to disagree.
peace sounds great in text but can never happen. eveeryone wants one big happy utopia like the song ''imagine'' or somthing, but a utopia can never exist, there will never be a perfect place for everyone because everyone has diffrent ideas of a perfect place. any attempts of it will outcome in another group or person gaining power in order to create their own idea of a utopia. look at adolf hitler, he used cencorship, propeganda and, horror to lead people under his rule so that one day he hoped the world would live just as he wanted. once again power and greed was the end of him. so i think that wether peace brings fast aperant rewards or not, it can never happen.
I bet it won't be long. Peak oil will hit, and even if it's not a horrible thing like many say, it will still have major long lasting (permanant?) consequences. The economic effects will be the key, people get mad when their pocketbooks take a hit, and they see the gov't has no plans or even ability to help them; they're lame ducks, swimming in circles. Things will change then, in what way, I don't know.
i just wish the world would stop putting fossil fuels into fuels and start putting it all into investing for the plastics and things that will last forever, and not be consumed instantly. amazing how one thing can be turned into two things, one that lasts forever, and one that is gone as soon as it is used. both kill, both came from death.
Imagine sounds more like some kind of communist platform then a dream of utopia, just a bit of Lennon's cynical side. Your right about the whole peace on Earth thing, its impossible. There will never be a revolt of any kind mainly because no one wants to get involved, American is daydreaming itself into a trap.
never the less there wont be a .....usa..... or a dollar bill or euro .....8 years from now ........patience , rome didnt fall in a day !!
I don't thinkt here will be a revolt either. people are too stupid to rebel. In fact, the masses absolutely LOVE the "protection" their new world order gives them. You wait, someday we'll be living in a full-scale dictatorship. Someday there'll be an armed guy or two in your house to make sure everything you do is within the law. Yep.
And then it'll just get worse, and worse... they ever try to mention a Battle Royale-esque thing and I'm leaving and never looking back. let's just hope no one who ever gets in power has read that book.
Rome did not fall in a day, but I can asure you that America will, possibliy even in one hour. It is true, the American people are in a day dream. The American people are to sure of their safety and life style. They believe that nothing will change and we will remain the great power of the world, when this is indeed denial. A word to the wise, watch and be ready because soon enough the world will experince it's next big movement. Hisorty has calmed down, but tension has slowly been biulding for 50 years and soon it will reach it's breaking point. For the generations of today I feel sorry, for we shall be the ones to see the worse that mankind has to offer. I am a hopeful person, but the truth is that history has only gotten more violent as time has gone on. People forget that history is filled with shocking surpises because they learn about them in a history class. The day before 9/11 if someone told you that the Twin Towers were going to be attacked and collapse you would probably consider them insane. But, it happened and it changed the world. Don't forget the lesson that history teaches. Expect the unexpected.
All empires fall, it happened to the Romans, the Greeks & it will happen in America. It's the nature of things. Power corupts...
sure the government will collaps. it wont be the result of a revolution though, it will just happen. once the powers that be see that the time approaches faster, they will pull out and put a new govt somewhere else, perhaps argentina perhaps in russia. regardless of where they will go, once they do go, en masse, the bottom will fall out here. of course youll have gangs of anarchist, herds of fat spoiled people, millitants and whatnot, but that will all be after the pullout.
