but Jason adds a great dimension to the drum/percussion sound opinions anyone? and did anyone see Fareed Haque with them last saturday for MLT? How was it?
Seriously?! And he's a percussionist? Don't get me wrong, if its cool with SCI and it works then it's cool with me but I think Travis does a fine job with all SCI's percussion needs.
I saw Jason Hamm play with the boys in Telluride.... he's pretty good, and most of the SCI boards (phantasy tour and the incidentaLIST) have lots of speculation whether or not he's going to become a full time member. Personally, I think he just adds a new dimension to the jams mostly. He doesn't seem to be that familiar with the songs yet. Would be nice to see him join, but I think Travis is more than capable of carrying both the kit and hand percussion at the same time.
kinda wondering what the talk is now... got off incidental List when they popped the 2000th member...tooo many posts...I'm on several boards, and the IL was SO talky. desparately hoping for RR this July.
well you know why they are adding new members???? its because they are going to be on tour with the most tech ninjas in the game..they better get a few more if they dont want to be pushed out of the way on their own tour..2005 the year umphreys takes over the jamband world!! MIDWEST!!!YA HEARD>
(rolls eyes) I think Cheese is well established and hardly going to be "pushed off" a tour. I remember the days when Keller and Jamie Janover would sit in for sets. There's always been a desire to keep adding dimensions. and (pop) um isn't all that, except to you, it seems. Nice guys, nice sound. but no spark that I have seen. Hope its there, because the band to watch on the summer tour is New Monsoon.
lol, takes over the jamband world, haha. didn't realize that the jamband world was like professional wrestling. I'm going to have to agree with drummin' though I enjoy um, I'd rather check out new monsoon above all though, my favorite act on the road today is Assembly of Dust
oh, dhs, SCI and Yonder put together a tour.. I think it was announced, so I can say something now (damn doo da for swearing silence) here are my local dates: Red Rocks July 2-3 String Cheese Incident Yonder Mountain String Band Keller Williams Umphrey's McGee New Monson Spearhead I'm not sure all six are at all shows...that seems long given jamband show lengths.
hahahahahaha ok seems like being up for 3 jammys,(live show of the year)sold out winter/spring ter, and being all over the place would acount for some kind of spark..and if u a calling me pop thank you,im 31 and thank god im old cause i got to see jerry over 60 times. so its good to be 31 now for getting to see the master then..it will be fun to see how this tour will turn out, should be a good one..we shall see how the hippies react to a 20 min. push the pig>nopener>injustice for all. very hard.. its not a spark forsure, thats goin to be a forest fire..its strait up ROCK..should be a grin see ya there;...

well, i haven't seen cheese in a few years so i'm not so sure about them...i do know i'll be disappointed if SCI headlines every night of that tour and keller and yonder only play hour sets...really lookin forward to catching new monsoon too! and i'm actually not a big UM fan (seen them a bunch though) but i just saw them a couple of days ago and they were on fire...
dude, they announced back at the hulaween show in madison that jason was officially a member of the band now, that is olllllld news.
Posted: Fri Apr 22, 2005 4:45 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To quote Jerry Joseph "it's like they saw a Dead show in Palo Alto on a sunny day. They ate a mild dosage of mushrooms. Bob Weir sang all the songs. All was happy in the world." This is the message I get from SCI. They live in a fantasy world and their music reflects that. They have no soul. Their music is just a smorgasboarg of a bunch of other bands, especially The Grateful Dead. Nershi is a self proclaimed Necropheliac. Their jamming lacks direction. Around 2000 they started to stray away from the bluegrass/calypso sound into something that was very generic and distinctly Phishy. Kyle and Keith seem to want to take all the jams into boring techno grooves. Frankly, their music is boring and without energy. Their fanbase is by far my least favorite crowd on the highway. They're dirty, CONFIRMED. It seems like getting spun out is their number one priority. Cheeseheads all expect to get miracled into the show for some reason. I like rock shows and rock fans. Their fanbase is a bunch of hippies who live in their own fantasyland utopia. The music has no substance but the crowd doesn't seem to mind. Their songs always focus on the happy go lucky aspects of life. I need a darker element in my music. Life has good and bad and I prefer that the music I pay for reflects that. Like I said, SCI represents all that is wrong with jambands. _________________ Go Cubs
i agree that bands that have really meaningful songs are a great thing, but don't you think that there is a place for silly fun too? i mean, i don't know that umphrey's has many deep meaningful lyrics
