The box was tiny, and at first glance seemed to pull you in with a compelling fascination of its intricate design. The texture felt like wood at first, but upon further investigation I realized it was made out a thick leather, carefully painted to mimick the design of wood. The lid of the hexagonal box had a star-like patterned border, and in the center of it was a face native to the indigineous region, decorated in a sort of 'crown' of patterns, pleasing to the eyes. Around the person's neck were simple beads, and on their ears were large interwoven circles. Within the box was a smaller box. Again, a face revealed itself. This time it was not human - some sort of lizard or creature of the forest? Or perhaps it was of the spirit world? The third box within was a tiny bird, with long flowing tail feathers and a welcoming face. All three boxes seemed to have an underlying theme that, though attracting to those unfamiliar with it, held an almost mischeivous content, as if asking the holder, "Can you solve this riddle?"

Another interesting characteristic of this cultural treasure was discovered by my searching for something that was not there. In the West, it is customary to take an item, scan it carefully, then flip it over to its back. From there, one would usually see "Made in China", "Taiwan","Mexico" or various other nations in which production costs far less than in the United States. To my surprise, there was no such label - not even a sticker or an engraving of any sort. The bottom was plain leather. I lowered the box from my eyes to take it in again, this time in a very different way. I realized that this was an object from another world, the ancient world. A world free of consumers, producers, media and mass production. Someone brought these boxes into creation individually, carefully. It was a form of art. It seemed all the more special at that moment, and so I kept it here - a small reminder of a world that was, and perhaps still is.

I enjoyed this, but for me it read more as a text-book than a creative description. The last couple of lines, however, were full of emotion- maybe the rest of the peice would benifit from this kind of expression? :)

I quite like this aura of mystery. It has a lot of atmosphere and a steady build up of inquisitiveness that I assume will lead to suspense. Well written and imaginative. Pray do continue, Burn.
