Yeah, it uses colored wax. Book came with some patterns. Not to keen on the ones they put in the book so I thought about getting some stencils at Walmart for my designs. Heck, might even try drawing my own.

Yes! :D I love it! I've had a yellow-green T-shirt which Ididn't like. So I bought pea-green Batik powder and tied off some of the cloth. then I batiked it and now it's one of my favourite clothes!!!

Well I bought it in a shop which had from paint for walls to oil colors all kinds of colors or things to color something. But I also saw them on a hobby store (it's name is "SKRIBO" I don't know whether it is only an Austrian shop or if it's also in the USA)
Wish you luck to find a store which sells them and wish you luck when you do Batik!!!

Thanx for the link. I took a look around and man it's is a great site and the prices look good. I ordered one of their catalogs. I can hardly wait to get started.

dharma is probably the best get-started site.
I bought a tjanting, non electric, from them long ago when I thought I'd have free time for art...ha!
Batik is a dye sucker, so plan on getting a lot of your fave colors.
Watch it on sapphire: it takes so much dye and it is so expensive (but in some pieces, so worth it)
look up lots of ways for removing the wax! Go beyond the book.
Which book did you get, btw? I collect old textile books from the '60s, and I 'm writing one for my sweetie's work.

yeah we made small tapestrys in art class ...its fun but it can get annoying when your making a tapestry and you spill the wax on it by accident in the wrong spot.heh happened to me..still fun though:)

    Hey drummin,
I believe this book was part of a kit. It has a pic of a sun on brown background of course done in batik. Underneath the word "Batikit" it says "rub 'n buff", in small print. The book was copywrited in 1972 by rub'n'buff, division of american art clay co. out of Indianapolis, Indiana. Not really a very big book. It's paper back. I'm going to look on ebay and see if their are other books which will give me more ideas and ways of doing batik.
