I'm not a vegetarian, but I feel kinda uncomfortable eating an animal that I might have befriended, like a pig or a cow, so I'm trying to cut down on the pork/ham/beef I eat. does anyone have any good suggestions for good food/dishes with no pork/ham/beef in it? thanks.

Never seen why people make distinctions between certain species of animals. Birds and fish aren't that crazy about being eaten either. Hope that helps, good luck.
i can't think of any recipes off hand but those ^^links are good also: http://www.pakupaku.info/ http://www.tazarat.com/recipe.asp and remember, google is your friend
well, I feel less guilty about eating fish and chicken because they don't have something of a personality. and chicken are mean. I don't like eating pork becuase I don't eat dog, so why eat something smarter than a dog?
i don't want to rain on your parade but to me there is no difference between eating certains animals. all can fear and feel pain. (i know that fish is still being debated, but you know what i mean). and i don't want to sound mean but it's not always what's best for you, i.e. what you feel less guilty eating. it's more about not particpating in the killing all together, even if that means dropping a few pounds because of a lack of meat, or something that isn't beneficial to you. sorry if that came out harsh, it wasn't meant to be.
I feel kinda bad about saying that stuff before... I just went to the PETA website and read up on stuff, and was reading a lot of stuff on these forums... yeah...I think I just became a vegetarian and no, you didn't sound harsh, I understand.
I can credit peta for inspiring me to give up meat as well. It's so awesome to see all these young folk on the forums so aware and proactive! I guarentee you that if you stick with it ~ in a few months you will wonder how you ever enjoyed eating the stuff to begin with.
yeah, ever sense I saw that stuff I felt so guilty for eating all that meat... I'd also just like to say that the videos of what they do to animals at the farms and slaughterhouses made me cry....
well, namaste, if you adhere to the idea of reincarnation, the life you eat might be Uncle Wally or something...so.... I am veg almost vegan in the developed world. I will eat fish if NEED (not desire) be in developing world (Quintana Roo, for example. veg is prohibitively expensive and one can cook on a coleman for only so long...you run out of fuel!) I travel a bit, and stay veg as long as all options hold out. (my personal reasons for being veg are political as well as environmental)
theres always health reasons too drumminmama, environmental and political are really good too though. and chickens have been shown to be pretty personable interesting creatures, hell i have gerbils that have obviously varied personalities...yeah, chickens do seem like pricks, but then again, dont cats????
Congrats namaste! It'll be easier than you think. Just keep doing the research. Also, if you are interested and moved by eastern philosophy, as I gather you might be from your name, check out the concept of ahimsa, which is basically dynamic harmlessness. It is a lifestyle of doing the most good and the least harm that you can, to humans, animals and the earth. For a brief overview, you can check www.ahimsa.com Happy veggin'!
peta was definately the turning point for me, i have been veggie for a while now, wow over 10 months, how time flies. anyway ya it's real easy, have of the time the things that you eat are already vegetarian so i don't think you should have any troubles. just question fast food places. i would try to avoid them as much as possible... you just never know... dun dun dun. haha
i love all of the morningstar brand food. it's really tasty and it still has a lot of protein in it. you should try it. the veggie burgers are amazing.
