I think that punk rock is dead. It died in the 80's. Now days you have bands like Good Charlote, Blink 182, and New Found Glory claiming to be punk bands. They're just boy bands with mohawks. The Exploited ripped of the punk's not dead quote from Crass which is one of the original punk bands. Crass came out with a song called punk is dead because of where punk was going. My opinoin about the punk scene is that it's not worth saving because a lot of the punk rockers that I run into have a pissed off attitude. I think they have that pissed off attitude just to get attention and to get people to hate them, so they can say we are rejected by society.
punk is popular culture critiquing itself. It is the only decent subculture cus simply they say, this is ugly, this is a fucking joke and the whole world of pop culture is a fucking joke. All the other subcultures want to be taken seriously, want to evoke some delicate little emotion. They jes wanna make money out of ya and make you the slave to the rythm and all of it is a lie. emotional attatchment to music and anything pop culture induces submissiveness. resist, period. btw, im a punk of sorts but im inclined to agree that punk is dead or near-as, there is still some sweet hardcore around if you luck for it. But there is nothing wrong with being pissed off and punks, everyone who lives in this shite society, have a right to be pissed off. anger is a gift, it can be catalytic. and crass sucked dick. their lyrics were preachy and arrogant. They take the piss out of the clash for standing against racism cuz they were whites, say the black man has his own solutions to his problems, then they say that all violence is wrong. To me the Notting Hill riots were the legitimate response of the blacks to their oppression. Oh yeah plus marxism is a con, say the crass (well duh). I mean look at what them marxists have got to gain by dedicating their lives to revolution. Yeah, what a clever con.
Punks not dead, punk will never be dead.. Look at bands as propagandhi.. real punk will never die, you just have to search a bit longer to find some good bands nowadays..
I can agree with you that people have a right to be pissed off, but the punks in my town are rude to others who listen to punk that don't wear leather jackets, spikes, studes, and don't have multi color hair. Yes I know that there is some good punk if you look for it, but I disagree to being rude to someone you don't know. And the Exploited sucks. Wattie is a fucking nazi as well as Sid Vicious. I've seen pictures of both of them wearing swastikas. Some say they did it for shock. I say that's bullshit. How is wearing a swastika not supporting racism.
i understand what you mean about people saying blink 182 are punk...as much as i like them they are NOT punk...punk was born in britain...and im not sure about if there arent any real punk bands left in america anymore but there are a few over here which are pretty amazing
well, there is a distinct difference between wearing a swastika and supporting racism. today i would say the shock has worn thin and racism is pretty much what it entails. For instance, the Pistols did "Bodies", which is one of my favourite ever songs, to disgust people with neither a pro-choice or pro-life message. I think Rotten was pro-choice in fact. Propagandhi are all right. For some reason ive also started to like leftover crack. dont ask me why... plus subhumans, a sweet band, didnt have an image at all so anyone who reckons you have to be studded and leather to be punk is a prick
Well that's kind of like the debate we always do here, are hippies dead ? That is quite the same question, i think the hippies and the punks are not dead
Lenny also says Rock 'n Roll is dead music doesn't die it just evolves over the years, we are living in a completely different situation than 30 years ago. besides that the punk-bands (as you want them to be) are not interesting for the music industry. ..I'm actualy quite happy with that because i can just walk into the nearest record-store and pick any Fat Wreck Chords or Epitaph cd knowing that it sounds good
who gives a fuck honestly... but I'd say alive because I consider myself being into the punk scene. And we ain't no fucking posers, it's all about love, we don't care about punky clothes and stuff.
very true. if people think that's it dead then maybe they aren't meant to be in it. (or perhaps they don't want to be). i think it's changed from what it use to be. it's not scene anymore, it's not cool, screamo seems to be the new cool. so yeah punk is alive, you just have to find it.
...saying punk is dead is like saying the hippie movement is dead. It's a movement, now that that particular era is dead most people would say that scene/lifestyle must be dead as well... but I disagree, I think once a movement has started there will always be people commited to it. P.s yes, punk rock is dead once you turn on mtv.. you have to go find the true underground/local bands. Trust me, it's quite alive. ... thats what most 'punk rockers' strive for. To put on a hardcore front and act like all they care about is beer and flag burning....they're oppressed little guys aren't they? Haha
The Swastika is a very old symbol actuall been around longer than the ankh... the word Swastika is sanskrit for "good to be"... i hate that one little revolution of racists, aka the nazis, had to go and ruin a symbol that meant good and turned it into something that meant hate... just becuase someone in todays society has a swastika... dont automatically say "they're racists".... find the truths behind such things before pointing fingers
The Actor, Tommy Lee Jones said it BEST, in the movie "Under Siege". They call it a Movement because it only goes so far, then STOPS. They callit a "Revolution because that's what it does. It keep's comming around! In your FACE! Isn't that what Punk is? IN YOUR FACE music?
Truth! To me punk IS the entire underground scene... which means hardcore/screamo/metal are all part of the Punk scene... all of those genres of music sprouted from punk. Which means its alive and kickin! bigger than ever. To see it, go to a show .
