What do you think had more bearing on why we left Nam? Me and a teacher were arguing about it today. She is all super liberal and hippie and stuff and I always am discrediting her because she teaches us liberal propaganda and misinformation all of the time. I FORGOT TO PUT MONEY ON ANSWER 2 OF THE POLL, PRETEND IT IS THERE
um, if those were the two sides of the debate, then I think both you and your teacher know very little about Vietnam
I dont think they cared about the people or the cause. They wasted too much money and when they realized it they pulled out. If it didnt cost so much, we might still be over there.
Shit I didn't put money. It was suppossed to say "soldiers dying and money being lost like mad" whoops, better go fix that
id have to say they pulled out because there were large amounts of money being lost and our beloved president was starting to look like an asshole, so he pulled the troops out to look sympathetic to the voters....most presidents realy dont give a shit about the community
I think your poll answers are too narrow. Since when have protests really discouraged the US government? As for the number of deaths, the number of US casualties in Vietnam are estimated at a little over 47,000. Since we were in Vietnam 11 years we arent talking huge numbers. By contrast there were over 600,000 deaths in the American Civil War with 50,000 casualties coming in the battle of Gettysburg alone. During the invasion of Normandy in WWII it is estimated that about 425,000 troops, Allied and German, were killed, wounded or captured. I dont believe that the amount of blood spilled had anything to do with it. Our getting out of Vietnam was mostly due to the fact that the US finally realized that we were not going to be able to win. Lack of support for the war in the states may have played a part but not much of one. There was also no money to be made in Vietnam. We can talk about Democracy and Freedom all we want but when the rubber meets the road, it just was not economically productive to stay in Vietnam. Do you think we would still be in Iraq if there werent a lot of people making money there? Lots of cash to be made cleaning up the mess and helping take that oil off their hands.
exactly $$$ the dollar takes all in today's terms operation enduring freedom really means, operation enduring wealth (oil)
For a number of reasons: public support, just not the radicals, had turned against the war, the high cost of the war, the fact that it would be impossible to win, the government in the south was too corrupt and inept at winning, so we gave it up as a lost cause........ I had a course here at college 2 years ago on the subject..........
I agree with pretty much everything you said..... Except the death toll was over 53,000 & the US was there right after the Korean war until about '75.... Thats almost 25 years.... Either way....it was still a war against Communism and the 'American Way'.... My father is dead because of that war. Thats all I have to say about that. GEO
