Did anyone here feel a little embarrassed when they started going barefoot in public like I did at first? For me the funny thing about it was that I would go without a shirt in public quite a bit and never think anything of it, but I felt totally naked when I first started going barefoot in public. In fact, I still feel that way a little, but nothing like back then.

Yeah, I guess I did feel a bit self-conscious when I first started going barefoot in public places where people are normally shod. I got over it. I'm about being myself, not what other people expect I should be.

You betcha. Years ago I struggled with the temptation, but was too embarrassed for anyone to see my soles or toes, especially the girls. Back when I was a teenager I dated this girl who loved to go barefoot in public and at home. My thoughts were something like, "aren't you embarrassed to walk around with your shoes and socks off?"

Being she was a barefooter, naturally she wanted me to do the same. I remember one time I paid her a visit wearing a pair of high top sneakers without any socks. We were outside sitting on the lawn with her barefoot of course. She saw the golden opportunity, proceed to untie my sneakers and yanked my shoes off. I thought to myself, no, no, no, leave my feet alone!

Yes it was embarrassing to say the least, but with each time it got a little easier but it felt great. Take some baby steps it will improve over time.

<P>For me, a lot of the fun in going barefoot is because of that feeling. I still get a little bit of a rush from being barefoot in public because it's something that most people think you shouldn't.

I don't barefoot in public. I'm way too shy, and i'd feel strange. However, I have seen a few people barefoot in the summer, and i think "You cool dude!"

you should try Loki. start by making small trips, like out to you mail box barefoot. do that until you're comfortable with it. then try small stores, like convienence stores or gas stations, excuse me ..petrol stations ;-) ... again do it until you're comfortable with "being seen" barefoot. it might be easier if you go to a seaside city where being barefoot isn't unusual.

It takes a while to work up the confidence to go barefoot away from home. For most people it's just getting over the percieved embarrassment of being seen out in their bare feet. For a few there are concerns about safety. That was one of my obstacles I had to overcome. For instance, when I first started going barefoot, I felt clumsy and stumbled sometimes. That was something I worried about because I'm very nearsighted. There have been a few times where something as simple as tripping and falling down caused me to lose my glasses and I was reduced to crawling around and blindly groping for them. Most times I found them after within a couple of minutes, but one time I couldn't find my glasses and spent the better part of an hour scared shitless. If it hadn't been for the kindness of a passerby who found them for me I don't know what I would have done. The thought of something happening to my glasses while I was out barefoot took me a while to get over, even though things like that only happened once every few years.

Eventually you have to decide to "just do it" and leave your shoes and socks at home.
