I caught this story last night on News 24 (strangely with a abc news report ? anyhoo). Cookie Monster, the biscuit-eating puppet on US children's show Sesame Street, will cut down on his favourite food as part of an anti-obesity drive. The blue-furred muppet who used to sing "C is for Cookie" will now tell viewers that "A Cookie is a Sometimes Food". Each episode of the show's new series will begin with a "health tip" about healthy foods and physical activity. A Sesame Street representative said the popular character would be "broadening his eating habits" in future. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4432415.stm I laughed so much... i love the cookie monster.
He will have a deep craving for cookies even so.. no name change or anything.. he will still be mental as hell thankfuly (well hopefuly).. I hope nobody gets deep and profound about him being a repre..gee whiz i am making my own thread very dull ... COOKIES
They banned The Count too saying he was too satanic for kids!!! Watch out Bert and Ernie.....or maybe they will just get girlfriends or something..
No seriously..it is a good thing realy..This crazy obesity shit can't go on..every little helps. I do feel sorry for him though ..its like they have chopped off his balls (well one at least)...poor cookie monster.
Now Dok' i was not going to go down that road..but what the hell.. Those lard arsed Americans need all the help they can get... *smug grin* *ignores fatties all around me*..
Yep. We are a fat nation (and I can say that. I'm fat too)....However, the Cookie Monster DID NOT make me fat. I didn't go around gobbling tons of cookies at one time because a puppet did it. I think children are more intelligent than people give them credit for. We don't need to PC fantasy because the parents are worried about the children's reality. What needs to happen is the obvious...For food commercials that blatantly target children to stop. For children's television to only be available certain hours in the day. For the nation to really start depending on themselves for excitement and entertainment rather than a television screen. PCing our cartoons and television shows aren't going to help if the children still just sit there eating junk food for hours on end.
So what made you fat ?..thats bloody awful thing to say..sorry ... just curious, and 'i ate to much' is just funny not a answer i was looking for hehehe I don't think people are blaming Mr monster.. just he is loved by kids and subconsiouly they will 'listen' to him.. it all does help i think. 'I think kids are more inteligent than we give them credit for' Thats a nice thought.. but i gave my 6 year old nephew the instrucions to record something on my video.. Lost ! he did not have a clue... That is a lie but fundementaly kids do need 'teaching', they are not as smart as people wish for them to be..its almost a cliche imho... Cookie should do a good job of it from what little i saw..it was not patronising and he did still keep his trademark love of cookies.. We are a fat nation as well holly, i don't think its just a 'american thing'.. (get over yourselves already ).. Its just the sign of the times i guess.. PC gone mad..well not realy inmho .. People moan about 'bad influences' and some people moan about 'good influences' (and a few moan about both).. Can't please everybody i guess. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY PARENTS.
Well, for me it was quite a few different factors. Nothing funny. Because of the abuse I received as a child, I was depressed and tended to sneak food. Also, I have a genetic disorder that came into play when I started puberty. I tripled my weight and gained near a foot to my height in 3 months time when I was 9 years old. Going from 3'11'' to 4'10'' and 60 to 180 lbs in such a short span of time will not be good for a child. So that prolonged the depression and a vicious cycle was started that I couldn't stop. Yes children need to be taught! But should sticking them in front of a television and not explaining the different themes or adding parental supplements to what they see be acceptable? Our nation (and others, I'm sure) depend entirely too much on television to babysit and teach their children. It's quite enforced handsoff parenting, which is the root of many of the problems facing the youth of the world today. I know you are a fat nation. I watched Bill Bailey's Part Troll. "We're just a bunch of fat, lazy, stupid illiterate, shagging weazing bastard..." Couldn't have said it better myself...
.. thanks, i apreciate your candour... Maybe they do..but we blame everybody apart from ourselves.. Though i think that mabybe a bit naive of me..because i don't/did not get effected by the things i watched as a kid..well apart from the A-team (but thats a good thing ) Thankfuly holly i am none of those things..well maybe half of those things... no a third of those things.. wtf I AM NONE OF THOSE THINGS (if you had added egomaniacs i would have been quiet on that one ) It's what it mostly boils down too ..
