Ive been thinkign a lot about tactical voting..
In my area its really close between the lib dems and the tories and apart from that theres no chance another party will get in..
so do i vote for the liberals to stop the tories getting in? or do i vote for a party i feel closest to?
We have a liberal democrat MP at the moment and i must admit she's not that bad..a nice lady who sticks up for what she believes in..(she was against the iraq war for example). Id much rather have her than the conservative MP, but does that make it right to vote for her?
It seems wrong to be voting against a party which is what tactical voting is.. Id rather vote for a partywhos policies i totally agree with...
    opinions?

hmm, i suppose its justified sometimes, like in france when everyone voted against le pen, purely because he was extream right wing...

i'd happily vote conservative if it ment keeping the BNP out of power...not that it'd ever come to that thank christ...

im voting plaed cymru, i normally wouldnt vote, but they seem like the only party that have their heads screwed on...

just vote for who you believe in, at the end of the day thats the best way to do it

I didn't vote last time because there wasn't a candidate who I felt reflected my political ideals... and I strongly believe in the democratic right not to vote...

How likely is it that the bastard, ahem, i mean Tory, is gonna win?? if chances are high then i would have to say go lib dem, but on the other hand you should be voting for the person and party that you feel closest shares your own beliefs on how our country should be run, but if its very unlikely that repect or the greens or the LCA or whoever will get in (as is so often the case unfortunately) then you may have to choose the lesser evil.

Take a step back from the problem. Voting's never gonna change the world. Your vote isn't really worth shit in the grand scheme of things. On the positive side though, god, in his infinite wisdom, has provided you with the opportunity to help stop an upper class Tory twat getting a four year holiday in Parliament at the taxpayer's expense! Do the decent thing.... help put a Tory on the dole :)

If the Tory's close to taking the seat, I'd vote Lib Dem, very bitterly, to stop them getting in. Normally I'd vote for, and probably campaign for, a far left party who best reflected my ideals. It's not just about winning seats, it's about building campaigning networks, even if these are on signle issues like stopping ID cards, or anti-war groups....

tactical voting, i've been wondering the same thig about the national election. its between tory and labour, so if i vote lib dem am i actually throwing away my vote and in effect voting tory? what if the tories get in just because no-one wants to vote for blair? so should we vote labour just to make sure we don't end up conservative? i'd never have thought i'd even be thinking about voting for blair though, it feels so wrong!!!

If we have to have reform, which I think is a cop out to revolution, then we should definitly have a box with 'None of the above' to tick.

I'm sure people didn't die fighting for our rights to vote, for the 'least worst option'!

Revolution isn't a realistic possibility in this country or any Western country any time soon. The best you're gonna get is PR. Even then, what do you hope to achieve? Most people are Sun reading, Eastenders watching cunts. Power to the people? What's the fucking point? They'd just bring back the death penalty, ban immigration and nuke France. In case you hadn't noticed, I'm a cynic!

I can see what you mean but it isn't that simple, populist views like that exist for a reason, mainly propoganda ... you said 'sun readers' and that is relevent because current moral panic is partly due to the way the press report things ... and the press have a vested interest in right wing politics because of their shareholders.

I wonder how many people would really want to 'nuke France' etc if they were presented with the real facts as opposed to a steady flow of reactionary tripe.

The news we get at the moment seems to be graduallly conditioning people into asking for more control over their lives, more restrictions and less freedom ... and worst of all the silly sods who vote for this are blind to what they're doing

Yes and no. But propaganda exists because it plays to prejudices that people already possess. We were busy persecuting people who were different long before there was a mass-media.
