i love art. i paint and draw write and play music. People say you are so talented and should go to these schools where artists learn. I dont have the money and i have seen amazing artists live in poverty because thats all they know how to do. It would be cool to do that for a living but anyone who pays attention knows half or even more than half of making money off art is luck sad enough as it is.

hey ya know though if you have some real talent you should do a regular job but also try to sell your work at the same time. Maybe if you go to college you can become a teacher and teach art for money but sell paintings for more money. Or there are so many new oppertunities in the field. My friend Sandra is going to college and her major is fine arts. She intends to paint detail work on cars for money. There is a lot of money in that and there is grafic arts. When you open your mind up to the art as a career field and see beyond the limitations then just trying to sell stuff at ren-fests you can open your self up to all new money making oppertunities. I hope I have helped you. but to answer your question of course you can just do it as a hoby but my mom told me something I will never forget..."Find something you like to do, and get someone to pay you to do it." She has a masters degree in art history and has taught art for 20 years and worked in the fine arts field as long as I have known her. She drives a real nice car and lives in a huge house. So there ya go :p *hugs*, gilli

I grew up painting, playing with clay.... basically, if it made I mess, I was doing it. And my parents wanted me to be "something practical". I went to school and have a double degree in Fine Arts and English.

While going to school I worked in a restaurant. After school I worked in that same restaurant for several years. I never stopped painting though. It was my hobby, I guess. I wasn't selling anything, but I also wasn't trying to sell anything. So, yeah.. you can totally view art as just a hobby, if that is what you want to do. Have a "career" and then just do art on the side.

Some of making money off of art is luck. But not all of it. One of the girls I worked with asked me if I would paint her a picture for her parent's anniversary. She paid me $200 for it. That was luck. But it gave me a kick in the ass... got me out there again. Now I participate in various art festivals, contests and such things. Put yourself out there, and good things can happen. You just have to believe in yourself!

I personally have dreams of being an author. I write everything. I write fiction, romance, erotica, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, etc. I love writing. I hate seeing a piece of paper blank!

Personally, I have every intentions of putting my works out there to the public as soon as I can -- right now I'm working to pay my DH through university. When he's finished and working, it will take some of the pressure off me and I can begin writing with a bit more fury.

If you chose to see art as a hobby, go ahead! It is an excellent hobby -- making use of your talents and keeping them supple. However, if you chose to work on it as a profession, it is definitely important to have something to fall back on. I agree completely. But it doesn't take any kind of degree to sell your work to consignment shops or on eBay.

Make use of your talents, else they will die.

    Bright Blessings!

i have the same problem,i cant handle education anyway!
who ever taught somebody to express anyways!
if we try at it ourselves we often learn things that cant be taught, art is something natural!its a waqy of communicating something you cant say but you only feel!
dont give up,im finding the finance side so hard right now,the only thing i can advise(which is what i am doing) is to get a oart time job and try getting some volunteer art jobs or do soe of your won work and promote yourself!
talent is placed in our hands for a reason, dont waste it,nothing we inherit or are abilities we are born with are not just coincidences but giftings in which are placed in our hands for reasons unknown to us until it unfolds!

As long as you're doing it for the SAKE of doing it, and not for money or fame, you can be happy.
Depends on WHY you're doing it. I write, but only because I LOVE to do it. I have no goals of getting rich or famous.
